“With the gun debate focused on state-level politics, high-profile shootings will exacerbate the division between these two Americas: in restrictive states, a demand for more laws; in permissive states, a demand for more guns.”

She seems to be admitting that the left has lost the debate. “High profile shootings” have always been the primary tool of the disarmists to pass more restrictive laws.

What she fails to consider is that national law can drive state law. We are very close to a national reciprocity law. Only an indifferent or pro-second amendment president is needed to obtain it. Once it is in place, the last few “may issue” states will fall.

I cannot see the citizens of New York seeing everyone else around the nation being allowed to protect themselves, but they will not be allowed to because their elites want to protect their organized crime buddies and the ultra rich.

If National reciprocity passes, no New Jersey mugger will be able to mug a stranger without wondering if they are from Pennsylvania, and might be armed.

More than three-quarters of gun homicide victims are male. A disproportionate of those killed by gun violence are black. African-Americans account for 55 per cent of U.S. gun deaths despite representing only 13 per cent of the population, according to 2010 figures.

Nearly 70 per cent of gun homicide victims are in the 18 to 40 age bracket, even though that group only represents a third of the population. The highest number of victims are in the 18 to 24 year-old range.

. . . first, that the fight is, and has been for some time, focused back at state level and the gun prohibitionists are losing badly;

In many cases, yes. However, as shown in the state of Washington, Bloomberg's money can fool much of the all-too-gullible voters into enacting their wet dream of gun registration via a "background check" state initiative. That, or "aiding" anti-gun politicians, as in Oregon, which is considering a BC bill this Monday. (see post #13 at http://freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3285530/posts) Anybody can write these guys. Even though this is Sunday, drop 'em a line.)

Nevada and Arizona are also under the gun.

If we don't watch out, while we are patting ourselves on the back over states going Shall Issue, we may wake up and find ourselves with a National Gun Registration law in effect via the state legislatures.
