Well one thing I know this sucks but the cap is a bit low. I mean 118K and then you are free after that. I am wanting everyone to get Social Security but that cap is embarrassingly low.

“SS and medicare are NOT government programs”

Oh great, then we can just strike them from the government budget, they don’t belong there.

I don’t think you’re really listening to what I’m saying.

Arguing about “caps” and suchlike amounts to little more than the rearrangement of the deck chairs on the Titanic, while the band plays “Near My God To Thee.”

The contracts are flawed. The payouts are much bigger than contributions, because the revenue collected is NOT invested in a productive venture. The gov’t just spends the money as it is collected. In country of Chile, the government invests the tax money in stocks and bonds, and so the system is successful.

But like all Ponzi schemes, this system is also coming to an end. It will go bankrupt because the model is flawed.

Perhaps politically impossible to shut it off now voluntarily, but it will be shut off, eventually, since it isn’t sustainable. If we don’t do it voluntarily, it will be forced on us by reality.

Like the old Fram Oil commercial, "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later."

Hypocrisy - there is a lot of it out there.

Your pictures are worth a thousand words.
The Hypocrisy of “conservatives” is palpable.
Their mantra - “cut every one else, but do not touch my medicare and social security”...hahaha
Why not be honest and admit the selfish behavior,
because those folks really do not give a hoot about the young folks coming up.

I am on medicare and social security. I will go along with any cuts that are necessary to restore fiscal sanity for the sake of the young folks.

What we have here, EV, is a full cast rehearsal of "Senior Freeper Dancing with the Stars" featuring:

the “Cutting Waste and Fraud Will Solve The Problem Two-Step”

the “Let’s Eliminate the Mohair Subsidy and NASA So We Can Save My Monthly Check Cha-Cha-Cha”

the “Get Rid of Every Government Program Except The One That Benefits ME Tango”

the “Tax The Living Snot Out Of My Grandkids, But Keep My Check Coming Waltz”

and that evergreen favorite, the “Kick The Can Down The Alley Until After I’m Dead Fox Trot"!

WE JUST WANT THE MONEY WE PAID INTO IT

It's all gone, bunky. Your parents and grandparents spent it. Give them a ring and see if they'll give you any of it back.

Preach it, FRiend.

The numbers I have seen indicate that a 23-27% cut will put SS back on a financially sound basis. I'll gladly take that.

We don't even have to explicitly cut benefits to eliminate the Soc Sec and Medicare deficits. There's always this soltution:

So you think the exact dollar you put in the bank is there for you???*LOL*

You think that's a relevant comment? SS has been paid for enough to be fully funded but it runs as a ponzi scheme - the money put in (exact bills and coins have no relevance) has been spent and replaced with an "IOU" that has to be constantly updated with vig on top.

I paid into Social Security starting in 1964 and did it until I retired last month. It is my money, forcibly taken by the government and with a rate of return of about 1%.

I refuse to be lumped into the same group as the welfare pukes on the RAT Plantation!

Liberals of the world...DROP DEAD!

“also the dollar I paid in when I first started is now some where between ten and twenty dollars.”

It would have been if the government had invested it. But instead they spent every penny and replaced the money with an IOU.

In order to pay you "your money", the tax rate on your kids and grandkids is going to have to go up. Way up.

Now if you are honestly okay with that, please say so.

Or if you want to shut down the entire rest of the federal government (not just the parts you disapprove of) to keep your check coming, go ahead and say that too.

Just don't insult anyone's intelligence by claiming there is some magic safe deposit box where "you" can go to get "your" money.

The money you contributed is spent and gone!
Did you even bother to understand the charts posted in this thread?
Social Security is on certain path to bankrupt the country.
Stop being selfish. Do some sacrifice for the sake of younger generations coming behind us. Don’t you care about your kids, grand kids, nephews, nieces?

It's pretty discouraging to see the financial ignorance on this thread, innit??

With the number of FReepers who are on the GIMME BACK MY MONEY bandwagon, think of what the opinions must be among the LIV's at large.

We are going to drive the SS/Medicare trolley down the tracks at full speed, right up to the moment that she jumps the rails and winds up in a smoking heap of rubble at the bottom of the gully.

Keep on cashing your government checks for as long as they last.

Enjoy them - someday, they will stop.

At that point, no one will much care that you "paid in" or that you were "promised" or that you have a "social contract".

At that point, I'll be over 75 myself, and I don't expect anyone to care about my missing government check, either.

So basically, it was set up so that only a minority of people who contributed would ever get a single penny back.

That is true.
