Pregnant at Harvard?
Harvard Crimson ^ | April 27, 2015 | Anonymous

...

I took two pregnancy tests, just to be certain. I spent the night by myself, crying. The very next day, I skipped class and went to an abortion clinic, where I officially learned that I was almost four months pregnant. My ex-boyfriend had apparently broken up with a girl who was a month and a half pregnant with his child.

All I desperately wanted was to have my boyfriend back. I wanted him to hold me and let me cry into his chest, for him to tell me that everything was okay even though it wasn’t. But by the time I found out the truth, it was too late to get him back. He had started dating another girl two months after we broke up. I couldn’t tell him. I couldn’t tell anyone.

So I called the clinic and made an appointment for a week’s time. That week was the hardest of my entire life. I hid underneath baggy sweaters, convinced that someone would notice how round my stomach had gotten. I was pale and withdrawn, and skipped almost every class to cry in my bedroom. I woke up every day praying that I was having some extended nightmare. I wasn’t.

I headed to the clinic a week later with just a book, a water bottle, my Harvard ID, and a locket containing a picture of my ex-boyfriend and me. The procedure didn’t take long. It wasn’t even that physically painful. But when it was over, I screamed. I couldn’t stop screaming. As I write these words, it has been over a month since the abortion—and on the inside that screaming hasn’t stopped.

I don’t personally like to get too self righteous about sex. That’s a personal decision. There are many forms of safe and effective birth control which I also have no problem with. The pill is overall very safe and effective. Most women do not experience the Possible but not probable severe side effects. Also most women who get pregnant while taking the pill forget to take the pill.

What I don’t have a lot of sympathy for is women who live in the USA and have cheap easy access to birth control and don’t bother to utilize it and then get pregnant and have abortions.

Yes,I could feel her anguish as well. I hope that the Lord opens a door for her and presents someone to help her through her pain.

4 MONTHS pregnant...saying a prayer...sad.

No excuse for an abortion...none. There are birth control being advertised on tv that can be effective for years.

Gee the sexual revolution has been a gift for men...they can be promiscuous, make babies and move on to the next woman while women have to deal with the aftermath of pregnancy or std’s.

"I sincerely hope that abortion left her unable to conceive ever again."

I strongly disagree with your point of view.

This girl has committed the murder of her baby. She will suffer and continue to suffer, in her emotions, in her self-worth, and maybe in her body as well. All as a result of her corrupt choices which were encouraged by a very corrupt society.

But she may well be interiorly driven to real repentance when she realizes the heinous nature of what she's done. And yes, with spiritual healing she can regain her mothering instinct.

I have met a number of women who are active in the pro-life movement, who had had abortions, then sincerely and heart-grievingly repented, and went on to find a good men to marry and had well-loved children. This often happened in the context of a religious conversion.

Don't close off hope for her. Our Lord is merciful. She can find healing and wholeness from Him.

Yes, totally agree. All we ever read is the other side, no regrets, best thing I ever did. You rarely read about the ongoing pain and guilt that comes after an abortion. Even though she was hiding her pregnancy she was hoping someone, anyone of her friends would notice a cry for help.

That, too. Retrospective self-reporting is often dicey. But it's the only figures we have to go by.

The fine Christian woman who used to be the head of our local Pregnancy Resource Center, got pregnant twice (in her pre-Christian days) while on the Pill. A statistical anomaly surely, in the low, low risk range. But for her, the risk was 200%.

Man-woman sex is always a potential baby-making activity (surprise!) even when a contraceptive is used, and even when there is no penetration (but a lot of slip-slidin' around.)

One of the worst long-term effects of contraception is detachment of emotional and moral perception in both males and females. It leads to easy promiscuity and shallow or no attachment. This is the "mind-set" that is destroying lasting pair-bonding, marriage, and stable family-formation in this country and every society where the power of sex has been denatured by contraception..

Anything that's very effective in splitting sex away from fertility, is also very effective in killing a marriage culture. I don't have to predict this anymore. I just observe and report.

And who’s being self-righteous? Pointing out cause and effect, long-term natural and logical consequences, is not self-righteousness. It’s sound judgment.

Bravo, I am so glad you posted this. The so many options for birth control for women that can cause medical side effects like blood clots, weigh gain, mood swings, depression and production of cysts on the ovaries. The implants can cause lumps in the breast, yellowing of skin or eyes, etc. Some women have Endometriosis and oral birth control helps to maintain the extreme pain of that disease.

For men its simply a condom and only negative effects is possible loss of sensation and some are allergic to
latex.

I agree, that is totally cruel thing to hope. King David lusted after another man’s wife and even saw to it that he was killed in battle. The Lord forgave David- and we should pray that this woman finds comfort in the Lord someday.

It took four months to figure out you were pregnant? And then you had an abortion to get a man back that dumped another pregnant woman? You are not smart enough to be at Harvard.

Smart in class. Dumb on the bus.

I can't possibly imagine women not having a clue about their cycle... 4 months without a period and you need 2 test kits? Really? Harvard PhD material right there.

And every year they come up with a new "medical breakthrough" contraceptive.

Breaking through women's bodies, as usual.

It can be hard to have mercy towards such a horrible sin, yet we too were once lost and separated from God with hearts black and full of sin. I am disgusted by her choice yet hope that the pain she is feeling now turns her to the only source of forgiveness and redemption. I always appreciate your comments on this dreadful topic.

Not that simple. I can’t tell you the number of women I had sex with in the day that later admitted they weren’t on the Pill. Only one of them asked me to use a condom and we ended up not doing anything(Gin is a great contraceptive).

The screaming won't stop.

Ever.

The jaws of Hell are yawning wide to swallow you up, Mizz Anonymous Harvard.

You have one help, one hope only.

You have a Savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Repent. Turn to Him.

Now.

Our help is in The Lord, who made Heaven and Earth.
