While the term “school choice” is often perceived as a decision between public and private institutions, magnet schools offer an opportunity to introduce another option for parents and families within their public school district. With almost 3,000 magnet schools nationwide in 2012, the trend embracing more public school choice continues to rise.

Originally conceived as an approach to decrease segregation in school districts, today magnet schools encourage more hands-on learning by tailoring instruction around a central theme. Various magnet schools focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); arts; business; culinary studies; medicine; languages and more. Magnet schools increase parental involvement, attendance and diversity, and improve student performance and graduation rates, resulting in higher teacher satisfaction and retention.

as good an idea as magnet schools seem to be, they are also setting the stage for the next phase of dumbing down public education: Work Force Education. To specialize means you also leave out other knowledge. You have to as a magnet school unless they have learned how to compress time.

My level of despair is reaching such a point that I begin to see no hope for public education. Common core and overtesting have begun a death spiral into destructive mediocrity, not just mediocrity, destructive mediocrity from which I see little hope of recovery. Still some 2/3rds of the states are locked into this nightmare with no obvious signs of pulling out.

The sick sick irony is that the filthy no good rotten low life bastards who concocted common core et al talked about uniform national standards because the standards among the states were so fractured, uneven and inconsistent. Well, congratulations Asshole Bill Gates you have made the situation worse not better. Be proud you little bit error.

There is no hope for public ed.

Years ago the Catholics knew that they had to protect their children and way of life and they concocted the Catholic private school system.

It worked

Either Private schooling or homeschooling for all conservative children to protect their futures.
