A woman accidentally shot herself during an incident Monday at a gun range in northwest suburban Crystal Lake.
The 55-year-old was shooting at the pistol range at On-Target at 560 Beechcraft Lane when she was injured just before 12:45 p.m., according to a statement from Crystal Lake police.
The woman fired a shot and a hot, expended shell casing landed inside her shirt, police said. When she tried to remove it, the pistol accidentally discharged and a bullet struck her in the thigh, officials said.
The McHenry resident was taken by ambulance to Centegra Hospital in McHenry for further evaluation, police said. Her condition was not known, and no one else was injured.
Police said they are not investigating the matter further, and no charges will be filed.
Ah, the old hot shell casing between the mountains trick.
I’m sure the shell casing was painful, but if she wanted to take her mind off the pain, she should have found some other method.
Crystal Lake probably isnt the best place to go shooting anyways, you know Jason wouldnt be happy.
Which is why I shoot revolvers.
When I used to take ladies shooting, I always told them.....if this happens, let ME get it!!
They better put a warning sticker on Glocks. I smell a lawsuit!
“Caution: Do not operate while wearing low cut blouses. Expended shells are HOT may lodge between breasts.”
Uh No. The pistol did not just accidentally discharged. She pulled the trigger and shot herself. I know the feeling of a hot cartridge stuck in various places. But I was never stupid enough to not render the pistol safe and / or deal with the cartridge.
Then again I was a welder and had to deal with such fun things such as slag dripping in my ear or other more ‘private’ areas.
They’re doing another friday the 13th next year according to imdb.com
I hate it when that happens!
As a lefty, I always had similar problems firing the M16, until the A2 came out with the built-in deflector.
Had my Glock toss a hot .45 case between my glasses frame and my temple. You have to learn to deal with it and keep it pointed downrange.

Why is this even news? Accidents can’t happen? What about the mriad carpenters who accidently shoot themselves with nail guns, staplers, cement nailers, accidently drill through hteir hands, saw their fingers off, or the plumbers who accidently saw their fingers off, burn themselves, lose an eye, or electricians who accidently electrocute themselves, or stick themselves with wire, or or or
The only reason this ACCIDENT is getting coverage is because a firearm is involved, and the reason it is is to ‘prove how dangerous firearms can be’- Yeah? Probably more people get shot with nail guns accidently every year than handguns, or cut themselves with any manner of sharp instruments, or or or
Pain is weakness leaving the body.
**Lord, make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hand faster than those who would seek to destroy me. Grant me victory over my foes and those that wish to do harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be If only I had my gun; and Lord if today is truly the day that You call me home, let me die in a pile of hot brass.**
Amen

Then I hope it’s like this Geico commercial!

The only thing accidental was the hot casing going between the peaks. Everything that followed was negligence.
Just as I walked onto the range one day a 38DD had a shell land there. 38DD was wearing a halter top.
Quite funny to see her dance around trying to dislodge it :)
Glock’s idea of putting the safety on the trigger escapes me as a good idea!
Accidental discharges happen because the shooter had their finger on the trigger when they shouldn’t have..
I use a .45 1911 to keep me alive!
