I'm not even sure it's that complicated.

Thanks to a sustained effort of decades by Gramscian Socialism and Hollywood, the modern American woman, on average, simply is not a very pleasant person to be around. Exceptions occur, but they are becoming ever more rare. Men are little better, but usually suffer less from deliberate conditioning than from neglect.

When a modern American man meets a woman from a more traditional cultural background, however, traditional results rapidly occur.

Men don't prefer porn to women in general (who would?) - they prefer porn to the defective products of the Welfare State currently dominating the American dating marketplace.

NO disrespect but if ya aint wearing a hazmat suit these days anywhere.. You’re on your own.

Porn is a messy multinational global megabusiness.

What do you think helped build our modern major communications infrastructure?

The precious dollar steals away more than profit when society turns its head.. Who rules the internet?

One of the FReepers used to say, as I recall it:
"Instead of marrying just meet a random woman in the street who hates you, and give her half of all your property."

Porn is just a natural filler for unsatisfied desires. The desires are unsatisfied because the legal and financial danger of having a relation is high and is only getting higher. At the same time the financial need to have children (who will take care of you once you become old and infirm at the ripe age of 35) is nonexistent, as rare a child finances their parents - but mutual funds usually do. A rational man would be better off taking the cash that he hasn't spent on family and children and investing it. If you want to know why some men still marry, their reasons are outside of realm of rational; they are firmly in the immaterial realm of hope and feelings and expectations.

I know a man, an old friend from almost 40 years ago, a good man with a wonderful wife and a good marriage. He once told me that because of his previous exposure to porn, it took years for him to clear those images out of his brain and actually make love to his wife without his instincts vividly conjuring up all those other women and their various sexual goods and services.

He said he was ashamed that porn had made him partially disengage from his flesh-and-blood, dearly beloved wife. It was not a small thing to him. It seriously undermined the satisfaction and contentment of his marriage. He had to consciously work for years to get rid of his porn-mind.

“Only Russia seems to understand the demographic crisis the world is becoming mired in, and is doing something to protect themselves.”

And note that the literally the first person targeted by Obama for sanctions was the woman in the Russian parliament leading the fight against porn and child sex exploitation.

This was after he met with homosexual activists and pornographers in St. Petersburg and said how their “civil rights” had to be protected.

Yeah. You read novels of the "old days" and see how men were deeply moved and inflamed by the sight of the woman's bare back and shoulders.

Another example: I saw a video of a Hasidic wedding, an arranged marriage where the bride and groom were basically touching for the first time when they held hands. The pure sweet wonder and transporting joy on both of their faces!!

Yeah, I have to say that I see porn as more of a symptom than a cause (although this probably becomes a bit of a chicken-and-the-egg thing).

We have a very sexualized society. It's how we market things. It's why the weather girl on TV is always cute. It's why music has become what it has become. Again, porn is part of that trend, but is not the sole cause of the trend. I think Gramscian Socialism is, indeed, a much better guess at why this got started.

And although society is highly sexualized, feminism and PC norms have made normal male-female interaction very problematic. Dating in college? I don't think I would. Most (not all) of the women I know are harpies -- demanding, angry, sullen, "victims" and really annoyed that they can't find a decent guy.

It's bad out there. It's bad for a lot of reasons.

Porn is a bad refuge from it all, but not a terribly surprising one.

Its a path of least resistance, all to readily available. Leads to a type of desensitivation. Sex becomes like, meh.

It's still a sad and disappointing--- and ultimately lonely --- thing for the man, and for any woman who cares for him.

And then of course there's women's porn, like that "50 Shades of Gray" rubbish. The romance books that basically make women dissatisfied with their husbands.

Exactly right.

Neither one of those things seems even remotely possible when anything you want to see is just a click away.

There is no mystery anymore.

That is why the 18-40 year olds consume large quantities of ED drugs. They can’t perform in the “unexciting” real world.

Just say no...to women. I have taken that route. I am tired of the drama and the bs I have to accept daily because I have to work with them. Once away from work I want nothing to do with them. I can take care of the farm, hunt and fish, and spend my money as I please. Yes, I miss the companionship but the last few years it is just not worth the effort. And porn doesn't and won't fit the bill. Women today have a sense of entitlement that isn't deserved and many act just like the minority of professional victims.

“Porn is once again taking the fall for the fruit of feminism.”

I tend to agree with you.

Pornography has been around in various forms and availability for decades, if not centuries. Feminism is a relatively new development.

While the aforementioned does not prove a causal relationship in the scientific sense, it is fairly strong anecdotal evidence, imo.

I know a man...

I knew a woman who was married to a wonderful man and in a good marriage. She once told me that because of her previous exposure to romance novels, Hollywood movies, pop music, and feminist indoctrination she could not clear her head of weaponizing sex against her husband. She wanted to control him and using his sex drive was easy. On the rare occasion she subjected her self to have sex with him she was disappointed that he did rip off her bodice like Fabio did and she felt she deserved.

She was never ashamed and when her husband who did not desire to destroy the marriage, he turned to porn as his only sexual expression that did not include a real flesh and blood affair. She blamed him for her frigidity, after all she would respond of he made her happy. She believed that he did not know to have sex with a real woman, because of porn, and his expectations for her were all just patriarchal porn fantasy.

He knew his marriage as the old celibacy. But his wife blamed everything on porn ignoring her own refusal and contempt. She was supported by many conservatives and Christians who demonized porn as the great sin of our age, but divorce, frigidity and wifely contempt are just peachy.

Shoe meet the other foot!

No porn will get you fired

Porn can get you fired very quickly. The acronym NSFW (not safe for work) is posted as a warning for just that reason.

I often think about what is going to happen when the generation that has always had access to their choice of unlimited free porn comes to power. Maybe nothing much. But I doubt it. It’s the first time something like that has been readily available to so many, almost has change the dynamic in some regard.

I think women’s porn is just as bad....like that “50 Shades of Gray” rubbish. And the romance books and movies that basically make women dissatisfied with their husbands, or train the women to monetize -— or, as you said, weaponize -— their bodies.
