Sort of like the, “Everyone is Black”, stories. The only authentic “Black” they can convince me of is the Russian poet Pushkin, whose grandfather was Ethiopian.

And Alexandre Dumas, 19th century French literary lion, whose father was mixed-race. Also Patrick Francis Healy, who was born legally a slave to a a mixed-race mother and Irish immigrant father; Fr. Healy was the first American of African ancestry to earn a PhD and to become a Jesuit priest, and 29th president of Georgetown University, 1873.

I have a pamphlet somewhere entitled “The Five Negro Presidents of the United States.” I bought it nearly 25 years ago on 125th Street in Harlem. It was a cheap, xerox copy of a self-published book with President Harding’s face on the cover. I wish I had it handy now. Such fun!
