4 CRITICAL updates, and 7 IMPORTANT updates.
Git yer patchin' shoes on...
Thank you and a BTT. I have to say I’m a little irritated by how long Microsoft goes these days without updating technet. Boss asks me yesterday, “So, we patching this week?” “Sure,” I sez. “Well, what are we patching?” “Uh, dunnno.” That’ll enhance yer professional reputation...
And I’ve got the pager this week.......
/me goes to sccm to approve updates to my test groups...
This is too bewildering. There are five laptops in my household.
2 xp’s
1 vista
1 win 7
1 win 8.1 (touch screen)
For the XP’s I would like to upgrade to Win 7, or be able to update security measures for them.
Is there any help out there for Win7 among the Freepers? Wanted to file transfer and cannot get the new computer to recognize a home group made by old computer. Help!
Well, I'm running Win7 but I don't know anything about using home groups, so do you want to start a fresh thread for this question, ping me to it and I'll ping the Windows list to it? Thread topic might be "Windows 7 help needed, re: home group file transfers" or something along those lines.
I started a thread and got the help I needed thank you!
So I see! I pinged the list to it because there's a lot of great ideas there. Thank you!!
One of the last “patch” or “updates” I installed turned my system upside down. It took me hours to figure it out .. uninstall it .. and return my computer to normal.
I Have Norton .. and after checking with them, and running my normal “extra” programs, I realized that I didn’t really need that OPTIONAL update at all.
Also, I downloaded the update to Adobe .. and it took me over a week to figure out what it had done to my computer. When I finally got it fixed, I couldn’t believe how many changes they had made - which I didn’t need and didn’t want. I’m done with Adobe. I don’t play games on my computer, so there is no reason to update anymore.
Make sure your computer does a "Restore point" before starting the updates. The update process _should_ do a restore point too, but I don't take chances. Sometimes I do a full system image with Acronis. It doesn't take long and I can always delete it later if everything goes well.
> Im done with Adobe.
It's a shame -- many years ago Adobe did great things. But their past decade or so has been garbage.
15 Patches/ 192Mb waiting for me at 6am on Wednesday morning! Woo-hoo, this ain’t fun.
I have had many computer threads on this board. Terrific tech brains and funny too!
Now that I think about it .. the first security update from Windows did say it was performing a “restore point”. However, the second update which ended up causing me all the issues, did NOT say “restore point”.
Thanks for letting me know that. One of the other things the 2nd update did was change from Windows {default} settings - which I just happen to like. I know, I’m weird. Anyway, although I have it marked to NOT make a sound when Windows opens, I still have it making a sound - when it clearly says [none] in the menu. Weird. I have to set the sound on mute when I shut down every night. I do that, because I live in an apartment and I get up very early [5:30 am]; and my living room is right over my neighbor’s bedroom.
