Extreme $100 Doughnut Decorated With Real Gold Flakes Available in Kelowna Bakery

As far as $100 doughnuts go, Jeanne Kaminski believes the Donutopia is a good deal.

The doughnut — the humble fried confectionary of the masses — has been blinged out to the extreme at West Kelowna’s Dolicious Donuts.

“Each one takes three to five hours to make. The value of the doughnut is more than $100,” said Dolicious owner Kaminski, co-creator of the lavish delicacy.

The Donutopia, which rests in a sugar bowl and is decorated with 24-karat gold flakes and edible sugar “diamonds,” starts with the same simple, yet secret, 40-year-old recipe that Dolicious uses for all its doughnuts. The one difference is that the batter is made with Bling H20, a “luxury water” with a sale price that starts at $29 per 200ml bottle.

“I saw it at Urban Fare and it said it was from the mountains of Tennessee. Now, I am from Tennessee so I knew that must be damn good water,” Kaminski said.

Pinot Gris ice wine has been added to the cream filling, and the chocolate icing is infused with imported balsamic vinegar.

“There are also gold flakes in the vinegar,” Kaminski noted.

While the Donutopia may be the priciest doughnut in British Columbia,

Patriotic Canadians go to Tim Horton’s. They can get a dispensation to go to Robins ONLY if the line at Timmy’s is too long.

I think it was liberal aging druggie hipster Anthony Bourdain that somehow managed to point out that people coming out with outrageously priced hamburgers just encourage the local neighbor restaurants to jack up the price with their burgers by a dollar or two, after seeing what others get away with charging.

Look for your local bakery to follow suit.

I don’t think there is a Robins in Calgary. Truth be known, I prefer McDonald’s coffee, it tastes as good or better than Timmy’s AND they offer free refills. The only reason I’ve recently been going to Timmy’s is because of latest ‘rrrrrrrroll up the rrrrrrrrim’ contest. I am a Canadian HERETIC, I guess!

That doughnut looks gross.

For a hundred bucks, I will let you watch me eat a Krispy Kreme doughnut naked.

If I was rich enough to afford a $100 doughnut I still wouldn't buy one.Maybe a $100 piece of prime rib...hold the gold shavings.

I like it when high quality items are priced high. It drives up the price of other similar goods.

This is good for the economy.

I use 23k gold leaf for my calligraphy and illumination work. It is genuine gold but it’s rolled extremely thin (to the point of translucency when held up to a light). right now the going rate is $57.95 for 25 3.5” x 3.5” sheets or $2.32 x sheet so yes the doughnut maker can say he’s using real gold but that’s quite a mark up for a $100 doughnut.
