“”The SSA Office of Inspector General has also noted that the Social Security Administration has a long-term problem with W-2s filed by employers on which the name and Social Security Number do not match.””

And yet, it has gone on year after year after year... I guess they feel they should be congratulated on doing their job because they know this much about it at least! FIX THE COTTON PICKIN’ PROBLEM!!!

Every employer filing a report of earnings receives a notice from SSA if the SS number and name do not match their records. There is no downside for the employer as they are simply advised to “take no action” against that employee. They are advised to have the employee just furnish his correct social security number and correct the filing of the employer. That’s it!!!! Of course, the employer knows he’s not going to get the correct number and that’s the end of it. No one is penalized!! BUT if the employer was to fire an employee who could not provide proof of his SS number, the SWHTF.....

I used to have to verify SS numbers for new hires at my old job. Whenever I got a no match response, I got with the employee and figured out the problem.
