Yes, Don Drysdale was a good hitting pitcher. He hit over .300 in some seasons, if I recall correctly.

For whatever reason, the way baseball evolved, nobody cared if pitchers could hit or not. Position players in baseball don’t make it to the majors if they can’t hit. But pitchers have always been held to a different standard.

I was at a game in LA where he was used as a pinch hitter with Tommy Davis on second. Davis scored on a Drysdale single to deep left field.
