The Russian government is mulling over funding a 17 million project, planned as a Russian rival to U.S. fast food chain McDonalds, according to Russian press.
The initiative, instigated by film directors Andrei Konchalovsky and Nikita Mikhalkov has already been looked at by Russian president Vladimir Putin and on his request Russias deputy prime minister Arkady Dvorkovich will review the idea today, Russian newspaper Kommersant reports.
According to a letter from the two directors, addressed to Putin last month and obtained by Kommersant, the catering chain is intended to become an alternative to Western fast food chains. It is planned to expand the brand of the popular TV cooking show Eat at Home which is owned and hosted by Konchalovskys wife Julia Vysotskaya.

If anyone has seen a proposed menu I'd be curious to know what's on it.

This has all the stupidity and central-planning arrogance of the Soviets. I guess things haven’t changed in Russia, or are simply going back to how they were.
What’s next - a Putin-supported Russian iPhone?

Like when they tried to make their own version of Coca-Cola
From “One, Two, Three”
C.R. MacNamara: Last year you put out a cockamamie imitation “Kremlin-kola!” You tried it out in the satellite countries, but even the Albanians wouldn’t drink it. They used it for SHEEP DIP! RIGHT?

I knew an old chef who came out of that area of the world who remained quite embittered toward turnips afterward.

Ask Canadian snowmobilers. Vodka doesn’t turn to slush until WAY below zero. A vodka slushy would REALLY freeze your brain.

I’m a little rusty on the Cyrillic, but does the blue lettering under the logo say “Buy Russian”?
To: Buckeye McFrog
It says, “The Taste of Russia.”
