We locked ourselves out of the house once. My son had left his window open which looked out onto the garage roof. I figured I could climb the tree next to the garage to reach the roof and then the window. That would have worked except for the previously unknown hornets’nest in the tree slightly above roof level. Definitely had an “Oh shit” moment when I saw the nest a few feet away and felt the first sting.

My yellow jacket story. They had set up a nest at the side of the house in a dropcloth I had neglected to pick up. I got a can of Raid flying insect killer and sprayed the nest without much effect.

So I went to the hardware store and bought a can of insect spray with the label "HOT!" It had a crude drawing of a dead wasp with its feet in the air, and an 'X' over the eyes. There was some Chinese lettering on the can as well.

So I spray the nest with this stuff and BAM! It literally knocked them out of the air. They weren't moving when they hit the ground. I wiped out the whole nest.

I've never seen the brand since. I figure that can must have slipped past customs, lol!
