Been at the Seb Inlet ocean side many times.Rural beach in many areas.
But its the East Coast and the shadows are not indicative of evening, dusk or night and as they would be to the ocean side of the cat not beach side.
IMOP this is an early AM shot as the shadows are low and long and the sun appears be rising in the east if this is Sebastian

Unless I am missing something, what you indicate is true if the photographer were facing roughly south when the photo was taken. However, the inverse would be true if the photographer was facing roughly north when the photo was taken.

From the account in the excerpt, I figured the photographer was facing roughly north with the setting sun generally to his left/west. In that case, the shadows would seem to be consistent with the sun setting on that beach.

Do you know which way the photographer was facing?

Please ignore my prior reply. It doesn’t make a damn bit of sense. I was confused and agree with your assessment.

I was reading the other thread and realized this was supposedly taken in Sebastian Inlet State Park. At the risk of beating this to death, if the photo was taken on the west side of the park along the Indian River, the shadows could be consistent with setting sun, I think. IDK if the beach/terrain and presence of a shark make sense there though.
