The vast majority of the world’s ATMs run on XPpro...the banks and financial institutions owning/managing those XPpro ATMs have support agreements with Microsoft.

I would imagine those ATMs are not hooked up to the public internet. They may be on an isolated subnet, but it is probably tightly controlled by the bank, with routing rules that only allow a limited number of IPs to access it.

True. Which is why I noted that MS is no longer supporting the private version of XP. Certain specialized institutions run on XP-Pro, such as the ones you mentioned and do indeed have support contracts in place.

I was in a local Korean grocery store the other day. I wanted to check a price, but the bar code scanner was down. I noticed its wall wart was loose, so I shoved it in. Took forever to boot up, using some version of Windows Embedded, but it eventually worked. It escapes me why anyone would use Windows for a bar code scanner.
