Kentucky superfan Ashley Judd is facing a bit of a conundrum, because of the teams upcoming trip to the Final Four. In order to support her team, but also show her support for the cause, she has proposed that Kentucky fans avoid spending any money while in Indiana.
Just because the above reminded me...
On January 1, 1954, West Virginia U. appeared in its first major bowl game -- vs the Southeast Conference champion, Georgia Tech.
The Sugar Bowl resisted inviting WVU, due to concern about how well their fans would "travel", but they were 10-and-oh when the invites went out and the NCAA was inisistent. As it happened, they lost their last game -- to South Carolina, as I recall.
Anyway, West Virginia comes to the Sugar Bowl, loses 42-19 and goes home. Afterward, the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce claimed that every West Virginia fan arrived with a twenty-dollar bill and one white shirt -- and didn't change either for the entire week.
I guess Ashley and the rest of her fans can now go home and not worry about the rest of their hotel stays.
