Lucille Ball fans want ‘frightening’ statue in star’s hometown removed

Lucille Ball’s hometown, just outside Jamestown in western New York, erected a life-size statue to honor the beloved actress — but now it has some explaining to do.

Many take issue with the sculptor’s unflattering depiction of the “I Love Lucy” star.

A self-described “big fan of Lucy’s” from Jamestown thinks the statue needs to be replaced with one befitting the comedy legend.

“Lucille Ball was not only an amazing comedienne, but she was a stunning beauty. Her sense of humor only made her more beautiful,” he said in an interview with Yahoo News. “This statue looks nothing like the beautiful Lucy we all know. If for no other reason than that... the statue should go.”

The Jamestown man, who wishes to remain anonymous, started a Facebook page titled We Love Lucy! Get Rid of this Statue.

She was a communist so maybe that reflects her soul.

I think you were too young to appreciate comedy or her looks. Your idea of comedy was probably the Howdy Doody show.

Well Howdy Doody was pretty good. I wanted to be part of the peanut gallery.

Actually my favorite show back the was “Leave It To Beaver”. Before that it was “Amos N Andy”. Interestingly both shows were done by Connolly and Mosher.

I did agree with Mother about Lucy being silly. It really was.

Was Lucy a Communist? I recall vividly in the 60s when she appeared on the Tom Duggan Show, a show that discussed a variety of topics on local Los Angeles TV, especially politics. Lucy did nothing during in her entire interview but denigrate and run down the United States of America.

I don't know if she was a member of the Party but she sure talked like one and I have loathed her ever since.

Either she was a Marxist or just another air head Hollywood millionaire doing nothing but criticizing the very country which gave her such wealth and fame. I suspect, however, the former is the truth.

Leave the statue as is. It catches perfectly her inner soul.

Well, all of his work is poor, IMO. He has no appreciation of natural poses or facial expressions, and various body parts are grossly out of scale.

She was a film noir girl before she found comedy.

I have a collection of “I love Lucy”. The one where her and Ethyl were working at the candy factory was funny too.

She was friends with conservatives in Hollywood (Wayne, Heston, Reagan), but back then liberals were more civil.
