Avril Lavigne reveals she has Lyme disease after months of rumors surrounding her health: I thought I was dying ____________________________________
Avril Lavigne's ailing health left her and her loved ones wondering what the hell was going on.
Now, the punk princess revealed she was diagnosed with a severe case of Lyme disease.
"I had no idea a bug bite could do this," she told People. "I was bedridden for five months."
Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans through the bite of infected blacklegged ticks, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart and the nervous system
The Canadian singer was feeling ill for months when she headed to Las Vegas with friends to celebrate her 30th birthday in September. But despite being in Sin City, partying was the last thing on Lavigne's mind.
"I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed," she recalled about her birthday excursion. "My friends asked, 'What's wrong?' I didn't know."
After receiving her diagnosis the "Complicated" singer began recuperating at her home in Ontario with the assistance of her mom, who moved in to help out, and her husband, Nickelback's Chad Kroeger, 40. But even with the support of her family, the disease proved to be quite debilitating.
"I felt like I couldn't breathe, I couldn't talk and I couldn't move. I thought I was dying," she said. "There were definitely times I couldn't shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you."
Lavigne's devotees worried about her condition especially after two hashtags "#PrayForAvril" and "#GetWellSoonAvril" went viral on Twitter in December. Speculations around her well-being boiled over when she replied, "thank you," confirming something was wrong.
"I feel bad because I haven't been able to say anything to the fans to let them no (sic) why I've been absent," she wrote Dec. 7 directly to the fan page where the hashtags originated from and after reports indicated she was heading to rehab, which she called "hilarious."
"They were asking about me since I was MIA, so I mentioned to one fan directly that I wasn't feeling good," she told People about the Twitter exchange. "The get-well messages and videos they sent touched me so deeply."
An acquaintance of mine from work has suffered with Lymes for a dozen years or so. She is unable to work now, and seldom without discomfort.
But it also kills off bees and other useful insects. Precise application is critical.
Or let loose a jillion chickens. :-)
Hmm. Isn’t it ironic?
Hey, she is SOMEBODY, one of her songs was parodied by Wierd Al. That’s a sign you’ve really made it!
“Hmm. Isnt it ironic?”
That was Alanis Morissette. :)
Oh. That was a long, long time ago, too... Too old... :-(
Well, I’m sorry she has Lyme disease. That is awful.
The other thing you can do is try to keep the low brush cut down. The ticks tend to hang out in the brush and weeds that are 6” to 2’ tall. That is where they tend to jump on you. I go around with my Stihl brush trimmer and keep the stuff around the yard(grass that I mow) knocked down.
My mother in law actually tucks her pant legs into her socks so the ticks can not jump on your ankles and crawl up your leg.
Also, I have a few bags left of diazinol crystals still in the shed. I mostly use that to keep carpenter ants from coming in the house. I sprinkle it right around the foundation. I bought six bags about ten years back when I heard they were going to make it illegal.
What sprays are using?
I use that to kill carpenter ants. I used it one time to kill all insects when I had a bad case of beetle grubs about ten years back Diazinon will kill an ant hill in about ten minutes.
There is actually no such thing as Chronic Lyme Disease. It’s one of the many self-diagnosed diseases. They usually have something else that is hard to diagnose so the doctors just accept the patient’s diagnosis. They test positive for Lyme because they had it at one time.
A friend had CFS/Lyme....except when she went home to Louisiana to visit family. It turned out to be a bad case of Depression.
A friend of mine just died of symptoms caused by Lyme disease.
According to Mayo Clinic:
Left untreated, Lyme disease can cause:
Chronic joint inflammation (Lyme arthritis), particularly of the knee
Neurological symptoms, such as facial palsy and neuropathy
Cognitive defects, such as impaired memory
Heart rhythm irregularities
6 months is about the max

I’ll check my recent amazon orders, one spray for clothing and two bottles of stuff to dilute and spray in sprayer.
I think I bought the stuff you spray on your clothes from Amazon. I remember it was in a black and yellow package. I also remember they stated that you should spray it on the clothes OUTSIDE. Then, let them hang outside for 24 hours before you wore them.
Here in soviet Red Hampshire; my wife and I do a ‘tick check’ every night after being outdoors in the garden during the summer.
yep, sounds familiar
According to your link "lingering symptoms of fatigue, pain, or joint and muscle aches. In some cases, these can last for more than 6 months.
Those patients who develop cardiac symptoms have to live with them longer than six months. Some of them die from dysrhythmias.
My friend died from them. She didn't imagine the symptoms. Some people really suffer from Lyme Disease.
