You never looked for conflict
It somehow seemed to find you
Everywhere you went
From the waterfront
To the vicious altercations among family
Sometimes I suppose you were thankful
You were an only child
My father, my patient reluctant hero
Is tired

Now, in the eeriness of an adult care facility
I am told you have become unresponsive
On your back in a semi catatonic state
Are you looking for peace,
Or practicing for the wooden box?

Outside your facility room door
The insidious buzz continues
Who’s responsible?
Who has power of attorney?
Why are they not doing enough?

And the beat goes on
While you sleep
Looking for peace Or practicing for the wooden box
Either way, you won’t have to hear it anymore

Very Good, Starfire. I agree. Somehow conflict does find us, but I think the news media and the liberals are the ones pushing for this conflict.

Thank you for sharing your poems with us. I always enjoy them.
