Thanks for that. Not sure I have DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver and as it is a laptop, don’t think I can upgrade.

I have Windows installed on my Mac. I know about a half dozen others who've done that. They all have jobs that require a substantial amount of travel, and the portability factor seems weigh heavily into the decision.

Thanks for that. Not sure I have DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver and as it is a laptop, dont think I can upgrade. In your Run command (Windows key and r) run dxdiag (do not choose ot if is drivers are signed) and hit System tab and you should see the version of Direct X (near bottom), and hit Display tab the WDDM driver model (right drivers column, bottom).
Note that you should not install any MS OS after Windows XP with less than 4gb ram.
I have read that W/8 was better on resources than Vista or W/7.

Hey thanks ShadowAce! Much appreciated.
There will doubtless be some crossover between lists (as there has been between yours and Swordmaker's, but I think it'll be alright. I appreciate the work you've done over the years on the Tech list and continue to enjoy the pings.
I'm wondering where the Cygwin fans will end up? LOL...

Thanks. I have Direct X 11, an Intel Celeron 900 @2.20GHz, and 2.048 G of RAM. Driver Model WDDM 1.1. I’ve debated installing the Win8 upgrade from the dead Dell. I really do miss it. The Dell had 4G of RAM.

Something wrong with Linux? Why would someone install Windows on Purpose??The vast majority of windows installations are preinstalled. No one has to install it on purpose. :-)

I have everything mac at home but my school/work computer is a Dell but I don't have ANY admin privileges there, so is it worth it to me to get on the ping list? Also my phone is an android. Does that count?

things like security issues, This is where you're going to run into most issues. Something I've noticed over the years is that many microsoft partisans seem to take reports of malware personally. I guess it's grown into a defensive stance because of the sheer volume of it that has existed over the years.
Personally, I think that microsoft is doing a lot better about protecting against malware than they used to, though in my personal opinion, there are fundamental long-standing decisions that have been made that will forever impact user's ability to protect themselves.
Thanks for creating the list. Go ahead and add me for now. I like to stay in the loop of things even though I, personally, avoid windows like the plague.
