#139 If Jacqueline Bissett wore a wet t-shirt while cooking you would give the movie 5 stars!

I liked Joss Whedon until he said that he hates capitalism. He’s a stupid hypocrite who has gotten rich providing a good or service someone else likes enough to pay for - then denounces the very system that he used to succeed. Too bad, because some of his work is interesting.

We are watching capitalism destroy itself right now, [Whedon] told the audience. He added that America is turning into Tsarist Russia and that were creating a country of serfs. Whedon was raised on the Upper Westside neighborhood of Manhattan in the 1970s, an area associated with left-leaning intellectuals. He said he was raised by people who thought socialism was a ''beautiful concept." I don't see where he said that.
The above is the statement he made.
If you read the words he said Capitalism is destroying itself right now (which is true, crony Capitalism is using lobby money to buy Congress to fleece the public. look at the Millennium Copyright act, and as they do so they dig away at the foundation of our Capitalist system.). He said he was also raised by folks who loved Socialism. Neither states he hates Capitalism. Myself I was raised by Old Skool Democrats. Never for one even though the first time I registered I did so as a Democrat. (Lady at the voting desk told me since my Mom and Dad registered Demo I had to my first time. I was 18 and didn't know any better)

Okay, so he didn't say that he hates capitalism. I'll even agree with you that 'crony capitalism' is not a good thing. I'm for free markets - which requires capitalism but is not guaranteed by capitalism.
On the other hand, his words about socialism make it clear that even if he doesn't 'hate' capitalism he's still a hypocrite for making so much money in a system that is so far from what he thinks is best (and keeping the money, of course - if he had given it all to the government then I'd accept he's an honest, non-hypocritical socialist).
Bottom line: I will no longer say that he 'hates' capitalism but I will also no longer support him.
