Cute article. I was there... it's pretty much on the mark. With one exception:

Ummmm, no. *cough* Unix *cough* Linux *cough*

The multi-desktop stuff on my CentOS Linux workstation is incredibly smooth, featureful, and highly functional. IMO both Windows and OS-X could do better than they're doing in that respect.

That said, nice walk down memory lane... :)

I caught that also. As far back as I can remember, I have always had multiple desktop support on linux.

Yeah, multiple desktops is one of the things I think Linux does best. I normally run 8.  Everything I run regularly has a place, so I always know where stuff is. I couldn't live without multiple desktops.
