My Encounter with a Democrat about Ted Cruz and The Tea Party
Me | 03-25-2015 | Me

Posted on 03/25/2015 7:07:07 PM PDT by Nowhere Man

I work in a major department store west of the Pittsburgh area and I sold some jewelry to a lady who was buying it foe her grandaughter's tea party. Just to make conversation, I referenced the Tea Party political group. She said how bad they were and Ted Cruz is "too Christian." I asked, "what do you mean by that?" She said, "I'm Catholic and liberal," and I replied, "hopefully if him or someone like him was elected, we can start to fix the damage of the last 7 years." She didn't like it.

People like that drive me nuts. I kept hearing the voice of my late mother, "how can people be so da@# dumb?" I guess she is the "typical Pittsburgh Democrat" who would vote for Democrats, even for Satan, if he ran Democrat. Several thoughts ran into my mind.

First off, Catholics are Christians, many are here of course and we all do not like the way the country is headed. I wonder about the Pope's politics at times, but that's for another time. Also, it pains me to see people who have strong religious beliefs picked on like that. Religion does not matter to me, as long as there are no human or animal sacrifices and that the religion does not preach "kill thy neighbor." However since she degraded Christians with strong religious beliefs, it rubbed me the wrong way plus it adds to the climate of anti-Christian and anti-Semitic that is going on today.

I do have the same beliefs personally although I do admit, I'm libertarian, heck, I consider myself a "South Park libertarian/conservative." Sometimes I call myself a "Barry Goldwater type," I know with some here, I've gotten into debates and yes, we do not always agree, but that's life. I just question the role of government in many moral matters, it should be left to the States, locals and the people themselves to regulate themselves as the case may be. Like Glenn Beck puts it, marriage is not the place of government but the people themselves and what religious beliefs they have.

I just shook my head thinking about where "sheeple" like that vote. They do not know or care that the Democrats of today are so far down the rabbit hole that in comparison, Hubert Humphrey would look conservative. FDR is long gone.

I agree with most of what you wrote but if I were you I would avoid discussing politics or religion with my clientele.

Politics isn’t about logic, it is emotion. Until people feel the pain of their poor electoral choices, they will continue to believe what they believe.

Sure hope you don't get a visit from HR if the lib-monkey complains.

I can't engage people on politics because I know it's only a spitting contest and no one is going to have an epiphany and change their mind. Liberals are shallow and stupid, generally speaking. You cannot reason with an entity driven purely by self-serving ideals and emotions. All you do is dive up your own blood pressure.

Politics should not be discussed in a business, if you care about that business. If you get the urge, go to Starbucks and talk to the barrista about how beautiful the Confederate flag is.

Not worth losing your Job over.

When dealing with Liberal Customers at work, there is one rule to know. Their Money is as Green as anyone else’s.

Talking sense to a Liberal is like barking at the Moon.

Well I live North of Pittsburgh and you aren’t going to find many favorable to Cruz in this highly liberal drenched area. They’re pretty backward in their mindset anyway so put a liberal lean on them and they come short on gray matter. There’s a few bastions here and there but consistently suppressed.

My son was in “adult” college here getting his masters when 9/11 hit. They had discussions in the classroom of course....it was an eyeopener for him...said he felt like he was in another country by all that was spoken and it was anything but favorable for America.

I doubt it, I would have heard by now but point taken.

I guess I ignore one of my rules where debating people like these is "like pig wrestling, you get dirty and the pig likes it." B-)

I really don't like it when I go into a business and someone who works there harangues me about their left wing beliefs? I guess you do like that?

Do your employers know you do this? Conservatives used to have an expression, "shut up and sing." I guess it got revoked.

>>Politics isn’t about logic, it is emotion.

This is the point. Whenever I’m insulted by a liberal I tell them the opposite - Politics isn’t about emotion, it’s about logic. Sometimes, rarely, they snap out of it.

Remember that most Catholics are democrat voters, not republicans, so her politics were normal for that denomination.

Great post. And good luck.

That said, people aren't dumb. They are blind...by choice.

BTW...I agree with others here. Workplace isn't the place to talk about politics or religion. The best you can hope for is someone of like mind bringing it up and then you can hope a liberal isn't in hearing range. They often do report people because they have an over-inflated childlike ego so they're offended very easily.

Heck one time I thought a woman was pregnant, when in fact she was just fat wearing a tunic like top....I was assisting her with fragrance and mentioned it's always a good idea to change fragrances when your pregnant and why. Oh my gosh she yelled "How dare you!" and went on a huge rant while her mother tried to calm her down. When nothing I could say helped I offered to get management....and did. She wanted me fired!

Management had a hard time not laughing when I shared why she needed to address this idiot, (and she's heavy too), but went out to cool everybody's jets just the same. Afterward her mother came back to apologize for her daughters behavior. It was wicked I tell ya!!!

You should have said... “Your poor grandchild”...when she looked at you with a funny look you could have said....”selfish people are ensuring she lives in a 3rd world country.”

....”Politics isn’t about emotion, it’s about logic. Sometimes, rarely, they snap out of it”...

On that point it’s a good comeback to ask them if they want a logical response or an emotional one...you’d be surprised how they answer that...but gives you an idea ‘how’ to follow through.
