Sketches Released Of Two Men Wanted For Gold Heist

Once the truck stopped, two armed men stormed the cab, announced themselves as “Policia” and placed traffic cones near the truck’s trailer section.

The armed men, who witnesses said spoke Spanish, restrained those in the truck and then led them into the woods. They then stole approximately $4.9 million in gold bars from the trailer and sped off in a white van.

Nearly five million dollars in gold was stolen during a shipment from Miami to Boston.

Now the FBI in Miami has released sketches of the two men who pulled off the gold heist in hopes that someone recognizes them and makes a call. That call could be worth up to $25,000 in reward money.

The robbery occurred Sunday, March 1st. A tractor-trailer carrying the gold bars left South Florida in the morning.

Around 6:30 p.m., the driver of the truck pulled over on I-95 in Wilson County, North Carolina. The cause for the stop is still under investigation, according to the FBI.

In addition to the reward being offered by the FBI for information leading to the arrest of those responsible, an additional reward may be available through the courier company, TransValue, Inc.

Given that the gold shipment originated in South Florida, the FBI believes that the robbers may also be from here.

“Because the armored truck company is based here in South Florida we believe there is a South Florida nexus to this crime. We’re hoping for the public’s help on getting some information that could help us lead to identifying these people and recovering the gold,” said FBI special agent Justin Fleck.

Sounds like they got 10 of the 400 oz bars, plus a little in change.

Each one is about 8 x 3 x 2 inches; each weighs a bit less than 27½ pounds.

Luckily, nothing valuable was lost. Just a barbarous relic, a 6,000 year bubble.
