I have my much thumbed copy in paperback titled "Three by Flannery O'Connor. I also read and re read "The Misfit". The story of an ordinary family on route to East Tennessee.
Although I do not know the author's views on capital punishment, such a story gives a brilliant picture of a psychopath. Further more, the character is not approached using a judgmental view by the author. It indicates the folly of trying to redeem the likes of the Misfit. A chilling portrait indeed!
Just downloaded “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and other stories by O’Conner to my iPad for 2.99. My reading has suffered since my eyesight has faded and the Kindle app really helps. Thanks for the suggestions.
Thanks for posting this! O’Connor is one of the ‘holes’ in my American Lit. education, and your post has convinced me to read her.
I’ve read ABOUT her in the past, largely because I share her love for birds; but I’ve never read any of her stories.
(My favorite Southern writer has been Thomas Wolfe - the older one; but I laughed myself silly over the White Suit Man’s ‘The Right Stuff’ - I think it’s the funniest book I’ve ever read ;-)
