What is the difference between Obamacare and Medicare?

Posted on 03/22/2015 3:00:43 PM PDT by Jonty30

I am arguing with a leftist on Facebook, who tells me the government requires people to purchase Medicare from one of thirty companies. Since Obamacare also requires you to purchase from companies, there is no difference. (His argument)

So what does Obamacare do that Medicare doesn't?

Like Social Security, it’s automatic; however, you may be able to opt out; but I’ve never investigated it.

Medicare is "mandatory" for those receiving SS. Part A is free and designed to provide "necessary" services for health. Part B - actual medical coverage, costs and you can opt out if you don't want/need it.

Part A is a safety net and Part B is similar to health insurance.

The proper source is the working taxpayer through contribution by his employer AND deductions from his earnings. No workee no Medicare

____________

That is true. Trustfunders and people who live on the earnings of others do not pay.

Nice weather?

Hush!

We had snow, then more snow, then lots of snow, and then it really snowed, and snowed some more.

It was also, cold, then freezing, then cold-cold then really cold and after a while one just gave up going out.

The wind blew, gusted, and roared when it wasn’t shaking the house and moving snow.

The snowpack was four and a half free in the front yard. It is down to two. Packed and icy.

Last year the last snow was out on the first week of May. We are predicting ohhhh...third week?

And you are telling me you have nice weather?

Sadist!

It pays 80% of what they decide is allowable. I regularly get explanation of benefits and the bills come to about $45,xxx per week (just for chemo, not total bills) and they pay something like $4xxx. Not just 80%. But why do I object to Obamacare? Because it’s a hot mess, because the imperial federal government has no right to require me to purchase a product. Those two(not in that order) are the reason that I will never buy into it. Ok, I don’t have to. I have Medicare and Tricare for Life. But I encourage my grown children to resist that illegal scheme as well.

So you can refuse Medicare if you refuse Social Security; refuse the money, and you can refuse the managed health program.
With Obamacare, refuse the program, pay money.
