Since moving my office to Manhattan, I was amazed at the number of Starbucks locations there. Seems like they have one on every city block. But their difficulty begs the questoin: If even Starbucks, with their overpriced lattes and frappucinos can't afford the rents to put their retail shops there, that does not bode well for other retailers in that space.
Oh well, the rents in the Bronx and over in Newark, NJ are much cheaper and they could always move more of their stores over there. That would fit in better with their "race together" campaign.

Racetogether....to a cheaper neighborhood
sounds like THE plan!

i’m quite sure that mr schulz’ politics embraces rent control, so he should have no problem explaining he should pay dirt low rents, no matter he’s a billionaire.

The whiff of Starbucks still reminds me of that of a car battery being charged....way too acidic.

It's time for an honest conversation about rent.

SO ... what other store is going to go in there if Starbucks can’t make it?! ... LOL ...

They’ve got a range of coffees and you can pick one that suits you. I go for the milder ones ... :-) ...

If starbucks can’t afford the rent, who can? The article seems to indicate there is an endless supply of people who are willing to step in and pay $600 per sq ft, or $1 million per year for a storefront location.

I actually love Starbucks coffee. That is, if there is no McDonald’s around.

Starbucks in LA [and other places] are slated to become wine bars for evening hours with small plates for food.

I get my Senior's coffee at McDs for 95 cents. Add a McChicken no bread and one apple slices and I have a decent lunch for $2.60.
And, yeah, McDs coffee is as good as the boutiques. And I don't have to say "grande" to order.

We're fortunate to have something at home that's apparently alien to New Yorkers: A Mr. Coffee machine.
Walmart's Great Value 'bold' works for us...

Starbucks coffee isn’t really that expensive, if you actually order coffee. It’s those coffee flavored milkshakes that are expensive.

I have a coffee shop in my neighborhood (not Starbucks) that turns into a wine bar after 6PM with small plates of food and live music (usually some local jazz outfit).
The wine is not cheap - ranges from $6 to $20 per glass. But they are always crowded.
They seem to do extremely well with this business model.
