Dodge halts Hellcat production
TORONTO SUN ^ | March 17, 2015 | Autonet

Dodge is experiencing the cliché “too much of a good thing,” and has stopped production of its 707 horsepower halo cars, the Challenger SRT Hellcat and Charger SRT Hellcat, to allow the Brampton, Ontario plant to catch up on existing orders.

The official statement released by FCA U.S. says, “Due to unprecedented demand for the 2015 Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcats, we are temporarily restricting orders while we validate current orders that are in the system."

While there's been no official word from the automaker regarding when it will resume selling the SRTs, some reports say it could be August before Dodge begins to accept orders again.

Dodge received more than 4,500 orders in the first five minutes of sales back in September 2014, for a car they'd planned to build just 5,000 of in total.

In February, the automaker announced on its blog that dealers were accepting more orders than the company could actually build.

Apparently each of the 2,300 American dealerships were informed they will get just one Hellcat per month, yet many reportedly accepted orders - and non-refundable deposits - for dozens or even hundreds more.

The situation was so bad that the automaker's blog post included a list of five questions a potential buyer should first ask a dealer before ordering and placing a deposit, including if that deposit is refundable should the order go unfilled.

I pulled up next to one of these in my Chevy Volt at a stoplight. I asked him if he wanted to run that thing.

I smoked his doors.

My car caught fire.

When we first got married, I had a 65 Olds Delta 88 with a 425 and 12 to 1 compression ration. She bought a brand new 73 Olds Cutlass with a 350.

We drove together over a thousand miles to our new home. Everytime we stopped to get gas the old 65 took less. It did have to have premium tho. The 73 took regular.

Stopped production to allow catchup?

Should that not be “...stopped taking orders...”.

Then again, given our press, who knows?

Completely misleading title. They haven't halted production, they've just stopped taking orders.

Of course, accuracy and journalism have become mutually exclusive as of late.

I used to hate Jeeps but now I see them as the ideal ‘bug out’ vehicle when the SHTF. Got to be camo colors though.

I used to as well, but I simply love them now.

Amazing vehicles - especially the Rubicon.

Auto press has been covering it a couple days. Just stopped new orders, not production.

“..and these ‘professional writers’ are allowed to vote!”

I’ve seen studies that rated various college departments on the rigor of their studies and how well their students rated on SAT/ACT tests.

Journalism was the 2nd from the bottom. Education was the bottom.

The weights of the 65 88 and the 73 Cutlass were similar... the low compression 73 had poorer mileage because of the low compression , a rich mixture to avoid oxides of nitrogen and a low performance cam , very similar to what would have been used in a pre-70 2bbl olds 350... but ground with a few degrees of retardation....

Education was the bottom.

Good grief! The blind leading the blind, or in this case, the ignorant teaching the ignorant.
