Wow! I recall reading about Dakota Meyer on FR, and reading the articles to my kids. IIRC he is the one that didn’t want to receive it - but then was convinced by others that it wasn’t just for him - but all of the other brave men that he fought with that didn’t survive.

Here’s an article from 2011. Another guy with him (Swenson) later received one also. Meyer had been ordered not to go in to help. After waiting a bit and hearing more calls for help he ignored the orders and made several trips to rescue the guys.
Ignoring what is the conventional thinking, and doing the right thing, consequences be damned. Sounds like he’ll fit in with the Palin family.
