A former Culpeper police officer has lost an appeal of his voluntary manslaughter conviction stemming from the shooting of an unarmed woman.
The Virginia Supreme Court refused to rehear 35-year-old Daniel Harmon-Wright's case.
Harmon-Wright's lawyer, Daniel Hawes, tells the Culpeper Star-Exponent (http://bit.ly/1FLyGsz ) that his client will appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Harmon-Wright received a three-year prison sentence following his conviction in Culpeper Circuit Court in January 2013.
He was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a church parking lot when he shot 54-year-old Patricia Ann Cook on Feb. 9, 2012. He has said he shot Cook in self-defense after she attempted to drive away with his arm was caught in the window of her vehicle.

Do we have a picture of the perp? Just curious....
Hey...she’s white! This can’t be.
The news article is misleading. The idea that he was being dragged when he fired the shots was his testimony but eyewitnesses told a different story. His hand was on the door handle and he fired through the closed window as the driver raised it. The vehicle didn’t start moving until he fired the first shot.
Ah yes, that lying SOB. I hope he has had a nice cell buddy to snuggle up to.
She looks dangerous. I mean just look at all those safety helmets behind her.
You'd be surprised just how dangerous people, including women, can be when drunk...or off their meds.I've seen it all...20 years working in a big city ER taught me all the meanings of "crazy" and "dangerous".
Not saying that that's the case here but trust me,it *does* happen.
Yep and sometimes its just a nice lady parked in a church parking lot talking on the phone.
I have no doubt that many nice ladies park in a church lot and talk on the phone.
So he hets a whole three years for murdering this woman
Officer Wiggums?
I wonder if he’s even served a day yet, or if his lawyer is just running these appeals to keep him out of prison until he dies of natural causes.
Was this lady on meds?
This was weird from day one. We may never know the real story.
This was the guy whose mom was a city official and tampered with police records/evidence wasn’t it? Damn, there going to drag this on until he goes free with ‘time served’.
Thank you for the update
