Bachelor Nation: 70% of Men Aged 20-34 Are Not Married
Pajamas Media ^ | 03/12/2015 | Dr. Helen Smith

Posted on 03/12/2015 7:37:26 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

I saw this headline at Newsalert from a CNS News article and went over to read it:

(CNSNews.com) – Seventy percent of American males between the ages of 20 and 34 are not married, and many live in a state of “perpetual adolescence” with ominous consequences for the nation’s future, says Janice Shaw Crouse, author of “Marriage Matters.”

“Far too many young men have failed to make a normal progression into adult roles of responsibility and self-sufficiency, roles generally associated with marriage and fatherhood,” Crouse, the former executive director of the Beverly LaHaye Institute, wrote in a recent Washington Times oped.

The high percentage of bachelors means bleak prospects for millions of young women who dream about a wedding day that may never come. “It’s very, very depressing,” Crouse told CNSNews.com.

It seems that Crouse and her crowd are watching too many Say Yes to the Dress episodes. So what matters is that women’s dreams are shattered? What about the bleak prospects for millions of men across the country who get very little legal or psychological protection from marriage? Now that’s what’s very, very depressing. Change that and maybe more men will be interested.

“Far too many young men have failed to make a normal progression into adult roles of responsibility and self-sufficiency, “

IE,,, stepping into the role women have designed for you.

My late brother-in-law paid alimony to his first wife for 40 years, until his death. (I don’t know the amount).

Your example is from the time period before the great wave of liberation jurisprudence hit the scene hardest. It was from the time when women were still statistically earning far less than men, and when homemaking was still considered in a court's decision. And you don't know the amount -- it could have been a pittance compared to the other poster's figure of $20K a year. This thread here is about the men and women of marriageable age today, and their fears of what has happened in divorce courts since the great waves of feminist divorce peaked in the late 80s - early 90s.

Agree completely. Men aren’t stupid, and they are adapting like any other organism would.

I have to fix your post a little:

“until American women start beginning to care about the man’s happiness.”

is what you wrote.

my take: “until American women start to care about anything else other than themselves.”

It’s the narcissism. Social media has just made it worse.

The perspective I have arrived at is that the more a corrupt and God-less system defecates on me, the less obligation I have to obey it or its corrupt rules.

Somebody else’s “good experiences” matter as much to me as the Apollo 11 moon landings matter to an Amazon native.

“Scorched earth” is not just a phrase and the US is not the only country on the Earth.

True....without the amount the length of time is almost meaningless.

Well to my mind it works like this, men will fulfill enough of their goals by thirty to decide at that point to check marriage off their list. Then there are a series of other goals which seem to amount to nest feathering for the next goal which is to have kids. Then there is hanging onto steady employment enough to get the kids a good start in life. After that comes retirement and whatever that entails, followed by some sickness (for both) and death (usually the guy first).

The thing is, it’s not about either the man or the woman, there is narcissism enough to go around in both camps, it’s about doing your part and contributing to society. Sure, there is going to be satisfaction in good relationships well maintained, but we all get into trouble if we try to fill the place in our lives reserved for God with another person.

Paul, for the record, was living in times when bbq’d church leaders were the lighting option of choice for Caesars garden parties.

“Women tease you about “perpetual adolescence””

Becoming immune to female ridicule is the smartest thing to do. They love to hang labels, call names, tell you what a “real man” would want to do, etc etc.
Ridicule into changing your life is their most powerful weapon. They are powerless when you can laugh at their ridicule attempts.

Are you so sure it was the times Paul lived in that is the issue, or is it perhaps that modern Christianity had deviated by becoming too worldly?

How about this as an alternative to both society AND marriage: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_Fathers

“Well there is a big difference between the married men at church (who are clean, well fed, and running things), vs the unmarried forty-year-olds.”

Yeahhhhhh,,, those lucky dogs. Because the single guys are malnourished, dirty, unkept, and not running anything. (except their own lives)

There have always been people who have wanted to go contrary to the tide, my own ancestry derives in part from a place famous for group of oddballs who spent their time sitting atop of pillars. There is a strong ascetic strain which makes me think that at least one of the weirdos consented to come down from his perch ;)

"That is why both parties need to value marriage much more highly, think and learn about it, and choose their partners based on values beyond sexual attraction. Few do, these days."

This is why my husband and I took our time after meeting each other. Our first date made it clear that something special was going on, but we both knew that we would marry only once, and we wanted to do it right. So we took the time to get to know each other completely. We waited two years and three months before marrying. By that time, we were both more than ready, but we've never regretted the wait.

Call em as I sees em. If it makes you feel better, there’s also the feral single females stalking around with Technicolor hair.

"A woman only has a bad attitude cause the men are boys."

No, I don't agree there. I've come across plenty of women who have contempt for men or just outright dislike them. I was shopping once, and a man maneuvered his cart between me and a big obese woman. He wasn't being rude, and as he passed, he said politely, "Excuse me, please, ladies. Both of you have a nice day."

The fat lady yelled after him, "Why should I excuse you? You're just a man!" That kind of attitude is rampant among women.

That said, it's a two-way street, because many young men today ARE feminized pajama-boy types. I swear I actually wonder if it's something in the water.

Also, many boys have been raised by their parents to be soft . I have a friend whose 19 year-old son is living at home and can't hold a job, yet she and her husband won't get tough with him. They even clean up his room for him.

Martello v Martello. Judge Chutz.

Judge ruled man had $9,000/month in gross income (before texs)
Set temporary spousal support at 5,600/mo.
Set ‘child support’ at $2,600/month.

What was left?

$800/ month to live on and pay Federal, State and FICA taxes.

Note: taxes on this income level are $2,600/month.

Now what is left?
