For this type of position, I whittle a guy down to five basic things. Are they competent or simply faking everyone out? What responsibilities has this guy had over the last twenty years of life? Can they tell you some bad news and be honest about the bad news? If they failed at something in life...did they take home the lessons learned? And finally...can they actually argue a point or win a debate?

The guy who talks religion and it’s all fake stuff to just get votes...won’t get my vote. The guy who walks around with a PhD but can’t think for himself....won’t get my vote. The guy who lies to the wife, his business partners and friends on a revolving basis....won’t get my business. The guy who only wants to give speeches and never argue the finer points of a problem/position...won’t get my vote.

If you don’t want to dig into a person’s philosophies, if just a simple identifier is good for you, so be it. It’s not for me. I’ve been screwed in business by “born again christians.” What was it the Emo said about forgiveness?

We're on the same page with respect to that.

My point being, don't leave it out of the equation. If you have an out and out atheist running, you can count on him/her making horrible decisions at some point precisely because he/she is an atheist.

Don’t waste your time going down this rabbit hole. You could have a guy who’s pro gun, pro life, pro family, anti gay marriage, anti gays in military, pro business, promise to repeal Obama care, etc. a charismatic proven leader, you name it. But if he’s a devout Catholic...some Freepers just won’t vote for him. Ditto if he’s a Mormon. Just let them be. You’ll never change their minds.

Prove your accusation.

Name names.

So what do you do when neither candidate considers your issue to be the major part of their candidacy ?

Nobody but God knows the answer to the question.

All we can know is what Cruz says he is. If he says he is born again, he could be A. lying, B. mistaken, or C. truthful.

But we can never know which.

What a load of nonsense, and you jump on a Cruz thread to mock Christianity.

Judging the salvation of another is not our job. If we have questions regarding another person’s spiritual health, we should pray for them; if we know them personally, we can offer help.

Please read Matthew 20.

Read a few Catholic v Protestant threads on this site and then tell me I’m wrong. I’m guilty of it too. I’d never vote for a Muslim no matter how stellar a conservative he was. Same thing, different degree.

“Cruz’s denomination is also the most conservative and republican voting church denomination,”

Works for me. There are plenty of left leaning church groups.

If neither GOP nor democrat candidate believes individual liberties descend from God, presumably believing instead that government is the arbiter of our rights, then I’ll find one who does.

In that piece, Hill talks about a personal relationship with God, being influenced by the Holy Spirit, constantly reading her Bible, etc., but doesn’t quite say ‘born again’, does she? Nor was she specifically asked. Not that she wouldn’t say so if convenient.

In other contexts, she has said she has a “personal relationship with Jesus Christ”. Is that parsing to avoid saying ‘born again’?

Would you vote for a Muslim under any circumstances? Answer honestly. Plenty of folks here would withhold their vote purely based on religion. If you don’t think that’s a fact I don’t know what to tell you.

I understand you passion but do you really want to have someones religious beliefs as a litmus test?
Bibi is NOT a Christian but I would support him if it was possible.

I know Christians on both sides of the political fence.
Some are VERY LIBERAL.

So would a Catholic get your vote? If all his conservative bonafides were stellar?

Really no Catholics?

You mean like Gingrich, or Bobby Jindal, or Santorum?

And you want to compare Catholics to Mormons?

You are full of it, if you want to start a theology argument, go to the religion section rather than trying to attack conservatives, Christians, and Ted Cruz on this thread.

**Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Hillary Clinton and probably many other wretches claim to be born again when they’re running for office. Means nothing.**

Let’s not forget Billy Carter.

I agree 100% with that.
