.....working properly which was a rare occurrence.

Nonsense, my good man. Have owned several MGBs, and it was quite common for them to go hundreds of miles between overhauls.

You Sir, are perhaps too hard on a motor vehicle.

One more thing
The dealer’s Service Manager

Last place to bring a car with sporting temperament. If oneself is not of a technical and mechanical bent, the place to take a MGB is your local farrier. Fitting big ends to mine as we speak.

My ‘B was a ‘63, purchased from a student pilot with newly PG wife.

Only thing(s) about MG:

1) Drive ‘em like blazes all weekend, then spend most of the week either in the shop or DIY put-it-all-right again.

2) Once a year, guaranteed, my little jewel would burn up #3 exhaust valve. (Got so accustomed to that deal, I once pulled the head off before I noticed that fouled spark plug...)

3 and worst of all) The so-called electrical system. Most owners I knew would only curse about “Lucas, the Prince of Darkness”, but I was saved after only a couple of months when I had an electrical fire and replaced every switch, fuse and wire in the car with stuff from our aviation electrical/electronics repair shop. (Only MGB in existence wired to Grumman specs.)

Fun car, but entirely too much like beatin’ yourself with a hammer ‘cause it feels soooooooooo good when you quit.

I tire of these calumnies. The MGB series NEVER had electrical problems that were not caused by careless owners. Answer these questions:
(1) Did you remove the batteries after each use and store in a cedar-lined chest at 70F and 10% humidity, wiping frequently with a Shetland wool cloth?
(2) Did you attempt to use the headlights while it was still daylight and the ambient temperature above 65F and the humidity above 15%?
(3) Did you cavalierly attempt to listen to the in-car radio option while using the fitted American-style signal lamps?
(4) Did you attempt to engage the heavy-duty MG starter motor while using the cigar lighter?

If you answered, "NO," to question #1, and "YES" to any remaining through #4, above, I shouldn't be at all surprised to learn that, "I had an electrical fire." In fact, you're bloody lucky to be alive.

I am sorry to inform you that by this senseless act, you have invalidated the famed MGB Warranty.

I was saved after only a couple of months ...

Mr. Unrepentant, you will never be saved until you restore a pre-1974 MGB to absolutely stock specifications and join the Church of England.

I am absolutely chastened.

I’m also amazed that I lived through my foolishness.

Not only did I violate every, I say EVERY one of your four cardinal points for Electrical Nirvana, but in crass addition added a half-my-life-savings worth of goodies to that poor little car.

...like the Webers, and the tube headers, and driving it in colonial outposts like Colorado, Wyoming and even (shudder) Texas....

Guess I’ll just have to credit dumb luck and swear never to do that sort of thing again. Church of England’s sort of out of the picture, though.....my Welsh/Irish side of the family doesn’t fit in too well in such lofty circles.
.
.
.
.
....however, about that MGB Warranty....WTF is that?

LOL - best line about MGs ever!

As a postscript, after I sold my MGB, I came "that" close to buying a new candy apple red TR6 with tan leather interior. I absolutely loved that car but a dose of sanity kicked in and I passed on it.

The damndest thing is that these funky roadsters run and look better than they ever did in their hay-day.

All it takes is the Moss Motors Catalogue and some $10-20Thousand in one's PayPal Acct!

I saw that last week at the geneva show. Very cool. These hybrid motor supercars (like the LaFerrari as well) are showing what is possible. I look for them to drop down to the Porsche’s, Aston martin’s, etc. in the near future.

Since it’s all electric is that as evil to FReepers as the Tesla? Just trying to keep up with what I should hate around here...

It’s not “all-electric” as it has a 3 cylinder gasoline motor, as does the i3 when ordered that way (it can be bought all-electric). The only other all-electric mainstream cars are the Tesla(s), Volkswagen E-Golf, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Nissan Leaf, Kia Soul EV, Ford Focus Electric, Fiat 500e, Smart Electric Drive, Mercedes B-Class (as configured for the US) and Chevrolet’s Bolt and their Spark EV.
