That’s a ridiculous charge! “Manslaughter by text!” ... LOL ...

A good lawyer is going to get ANYONE off such a stupid charge as “Manslaughter by text”!

If I text or post to someone, “Why don’t you go out and hang yourself and do the world a favor!” ... only an idiot for a prosecutor is going to try and bring a charge and any good lawyer will get that overturned!

I don’t care how much of an boorish girl that is ... because I see plenty of those boorish types on Free Republic too, but I don’t advise “bringing charges” against them.

These people in government positions sure going CRAZY with their power in their positions!

The context matters. He was in a car, in the act of committing suicide, with the motor running, and then he started to back out, and she encouraged him to go through with it. That’s a bit like yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theater. It’s different, I think, from me telling someone on FR to go shoot themselves because their position on Ukraine is so stupid (or whatever).

There are other articles stating that the prosecution has a tough uphill battle in this case. But the context should be considered. Apparently there are over 1,000 texts between this woman and this disturbed boy in which she encourages him to kill himself. The smoking gun in my opinion is when he decided to abort the suicide and the woman texted him to "get back in the car."

So this is not your typical "Do the world a favor and hang yourself" insult, which all reasonable people would see as metaphorical and not take literally. In this case, this woman was taking active role here.

It also plays into human decency. Here on Free Republic, we get into it quite a bit and in the heat of argument, we say things we later regret and usually apologize for. But it would take a really nasty and despicable person to come on to a "Pray for my Wife" thread and tell that husband that you hope she dies soon and why don't you just go ahead and pull the plug on her.

I'm thinking that person would instantly earn a lifetime banishment from Free Republic.
