This Billionaire Governor Taxed the Rich and Increased the Minimum Wage -- Now, His State's Economy
Huffington Post ^ | 02/28/15 | Carl Gibson

Posted on 02/28/2015 6:10:04 PM PST by SendShaqtoIraq

"Minnesota's Governor raised the minimum wage, signed an equal pay act, and raised taxes on the rich to fund K-12 schools and higher education. Minnesota now has the 5th highest job growth in the nation and median income is $8,000 higher than the national average. By contrast, Governor Walker in the neighboring state of Wisconsin did the opposite: he gave the rich $2.1 billion in tax breaks, busted unions, and cut school funding more than any governor. Wisconsin now ranks 37th for job growth, median income is $800 below the national average, and the budget deficit is so large Walker has stopped making payments. Share this for every conservative who says raising taxes on the rich will destroy the economy. Cure them of their ignorance."

Minnesota. America’s first Communist Country. They elected a Rassler as gov, then a fool idiot pig crap for senator. When people in a state make those types of decision, they should not be allowed to vote. Like a state of lunatics.

I hear that Mr. Obama led us out of the Bush depression, created hundreds of millions of jobs, made the waters recede and cured the racial divide.

It's a goofy state but one that has consistently performed well economically. The one exception has been the democratic and union controlled Iron Range which has been boom or bust depending on domestic demand for steel.

Now, having said this, I believe the economic success of the state has been due to the work ethic of its people and diversity of economy ... Not the government.

The liberal blogs are going bonkers over this Minnesota governor saying this is proof that the rich can be taxed, minimum wage can be raised, and a state economy can be prosperous. Can you say inventive accounting? The left is so ecstatic over this and of course since they’re next door to Wisconsin they’re trying to shove it down Governor Walker’s throat.

An update on the author.

A socialist who has never held a job in the private sector offering an inaccurate opinion on something he knows nothing about.

Sounds like someone my inlaws voted for....twice.

From one of the posters on that Huff thread:

Let’s deconstruct some of the articles “facts”:

1) The article asserts that Dayton inherited a projected 6.2b budget deficit (Minnesota runs a biannual budget cycle, so that is 6.2b for the 2-years of July 2011 to June 2013). The fact is the deficit was a prediction that never materialized due to Dayton was running on the budget he INHERITED from the previous year’s legislature and Republican governor. This means the deficit that never materialized was mitigated by a budget designed and passed by Republicans who showed great restraint in both taxation and in spending.

2) “Dayton raised the income tax in his first four years in office”. The income tax was raised in April 2013, more than two years into his term, and only after the Democratic party won majorities in both the MN House and MN Senate. These taxes have had only one year (2014) to impact the economy of Minnesota and we are already seeing the negative results.

3) Dayton added 172,000 new jobs to the Minnesota economy during his first term. The claim comes from an October 2014 press release and ignores that for the first two years of his term Governor Dayton was running on the budget from the previous Republican Governor and majority Republican legislature and then on a budget drafted by a majority Republican legislature for the next two years. In other words, for his first term Dayton was running on Republican designed budgets (Minnesota runs on a two-year budget cycle).

4) A current projection of $1B surplus. Today, a new projection is due from MNOMB. If the projection is not revised down, the Democrats plan on increasing spending to spend all of the surplus and permanently increasing government spending.

This reminds me of that commercial where some start up company advertises that they are the fastest growing company in the industry. Well of course they started from zero so any small improvement is huge percentage increase.

I don’t believe any of it. It is like the DiC saying our economy is more robust than ever, the deficit is lower than you would know, and that islam is a religion of peace.

Lies told with a straight face become accepted as truth

“and the budget deficit is so large Walker has stopped making payments.” That should tell you this is bull right there.

Any state that stopped making payments is in default, so complete and utter bull.

Is Wisconsin in bad shape? i thought Walker got rid of a huge deficit.

I remember the stuck pigs screaming when Reagan cut the spending...it was pathetic.

Is the Huffington Post writer asserting that 18.5 trillion in debt will lead to prosperity? I ain’t buying that bridge.
