The American Character comes from adversity, not diversity.

We are a pressure cooker with a plugged safety valve reminiscent of the Boston marathon.

America is not a nation of immigrants or a nation of immigrants turned citizens. We are a nation created by settlers and colonists, whose descendants broke form the mother country and created a republic. They allowed immigration, not reform America with each immigrant, but to have the immigrants give up their identity and become Americans. We are a historical nation with immigrants.

Thanks for your posting of the text, Twotone!

If we had a Representative and Senator to read the entire transcript into the Congressional Record for both the House and Senate, perhaps SOME of the politicians might actually wake up and understand what the Obama administration is trying to do to the USA.

nd then the PC line extra: “...except the ‘native’ Americans”. Another phrase I hate.

I agree! Everyone born here is/was a native American; not just the American Indians.

I think the term American Indian refers to the North and South American Continents; NOT the Indian tribes just in what later became the USA.

And I believe one was Catholic, two were quakers, and the rest were... Protestants!

I don’t always agree with what you post, but this posting about your ancestry is a keeper! ....Many of my ancestors (non-immigrants to USA) also came to the Colonies in the 16-1700s. Some came later through Galveston in the 1840s and truly were immigrants.

I would love to see that happen. Do any FReepers have contacts with good Republicans in the house or senate? Being from Oregon, I only have leftists jerks & certainly none of them would be a help.

Immigrant status of an ancestor doesn’t make me an immigrant. At no time were a majority of people in the states immigrants. Most were born in the territory that was the United States, or would become the United States.

I think people don’t know what the word immigrant means.

The point is that immigration is what has made the US so unique. Compared to Germany, or Russia, or France, or any other major country in the world. 500 years ago no one one was here. Those other countries had thriving civilizations at that time. And our country was built by people coming here from literally all over the world in a strikingly short period of time (historically speaking).

Yes, yes, i know we’re supposed to be anti-immigrant nowadays since we’ve got hordes of illegals flowing across the border. But we are nation that was forged from immigration. Sorry, its a fact.
