Why wouldn’t the crowd be supportive. He paid for them to be there.

To see hundreds of people all stream into the room minutes before his appearance was an impressive bit of organization. This is the advantage of money. They had group leaders spreading them out to make sure seats were full but also, supporters were spread out enough to quickly fill any seat of anybody leaving.
