Bill Maher Accuses Jeb Bush of Converting to Catholism for Political Gain
Mediaite ^ | 2-24-2015 | Matt Wilstein

“Did you know Jeb Bush is Catholic? Neither did I,” Maher wrote, before pointing out that Bush “converted to Catholicism in 1996 — 22 years after marrying his Mexican-born wife, Columba, — and conveniently between the first time he ran for governor (and lost) and the second time he ran, and won.”

“The Bushes play election hardball, but they also play the margins. They look for every little edge,” he added.

As Maher put it, George W. Bush became an Evangelical Christian before running for governor of Texas, a state where 34% of voters fall in that category. Similarly, Jeb Bush went from Protestant to Catholic and won the governorship in a state where 26% of voters are Catholic.

Boy, they don’t like it when we question their patriotism, but they sure don’t hesitate to question our religion in every way possible.

It’s nice to have the MSM carrying your water, that’s for sure.

“But I’d say Jeb was more likely to do it because the wife Colomba told him to do it. Seems she is the boss. Jeb even prefers to speak Spanish at home.”

We got another ValJar situation on our hands? Weak, spineless types good in front of a camera, but the lady is calling the shots (and the lady happens to be a fellow traveler)?

going Catholic in a state and a country where Catholicism is only a minority religion....(only about 25% in both places)...

now THAT’s not an Obvious Success Strategy for a politician

not at all. Sounds like Jeb needs now campaign advisors, or the newspaper needs new editors.

ps: We’ve had only ONE Roman Catholic President, he barely got elected ... and then he got shot.

I’m not Catholic, but seriously, Bill Maher is anti-religious bigot of long standing and an all round douche nozzle.

He can go ahead and be Catholic if he wants, what I have a problem with is the fact that he seems to lack his own identity so he seems to be taking on his wife’s instead, and for some reason wants to run the country.

The only time we see Imam Obama in a church is for the optics. ...church is not part of their family routine.

And who in the hell has to be reminded they are not a muslim but a Christian?

If there is anything to this theory, the Catholics should learn from and beware of the “beads and rattles” approach that his brother used in gaining Evangelical support. It was all a bunch of words and shiny “good intentions” that just never seemed to materialize. Beware.

Is it any different than Obama sitting in Rev. Wright’s church for 20 years to get into political office?

Jeb Bush went from Protestant to Catholic and won the governorship in a state where 26% of voters are Catholic.

Odds are he converted to the Catholic faith because of his wife, Columba, who is Mexican. In 1995, Bush converted from Episcopalianism to Catholicism. For many years, he and his wife have attended the Church of the Epiphany, a Catholic parish located in Miami. Bush is a Third Degree Knight of Columbus. ref.

Catholic ping!

If your argument is that a guy’s been in a church nearly twenty years primarily for political gain, it’s a pretty stupid argument. Which is where Bill comes in.

Will there be a media firestorm deploring those who question the sincerity of the religious beliefs Jeb Bush? Of course not. Unfortunately, the Jeb haters and Catholic haters here on FR will play right along.

It's a fact - I think - that in marriages and relationships the person of weaker beliefs will gravitate towards the viewpoint of the one with stronger beliefs.

In my situation, my girlfriend has drifted from a "small l" liberal to a "small c" conservative, and I don't think she's just kissing my butt: she had big problems with post-modern liberalism in her former academic setting before she ever met me. I think when the conservative point of view is explained, it makes sense to people who aren't strong ideologues on the other side. And it's the same with religion.

I used to believe in the basic decency of the Bushes. Not anymore. They are not merely squishes.

And:

Jeb Bush murdered Terri Schiavo.
