You’re right. Falls Church isn’t a hick town in the boonies, but a prosperous suburb/town. The guy is very well off, and his wife is a former mayor of Falls Church.
She’s doing a “stand by your man” thing, popular among Hillary Clinton Dems, even though he was convicted of molesting two girls at his ten year old daughter’s slumber party and since then has been charged twice in other molestations (in one case, of a family member).
He apparently wanted the girls, the detective and two prosecutors killed.
