Since January 15 the French army's "Opération Sentinelle" has protected 722 Jewish schools and synagogues, some 24/7 even when the establishments were empty.
The operation came to be regarded as too dangerous for the soldiers who were regularly targets of attacks. Over time the men were worn out.
The army has reported 371 incidents perpetrated against the soldiers standing guard in front of the protected sites. The Defense Ministry has announced that the men will become more mobile, rendering them less vulnerable.
The army noted that "reconnoitering, the taking of snapshots and films" by jihadists preparing future attacks had been going on. "Fourteen serious attacks, with a knife, laser, even blows with heavy sticks," were reported. One jihadist tried to grab the rifle of a soldier on patrol at Trocadéro (Paris) before being caught (and probably released).
In Étampes, a Muslim was spotted several times by the soldiers: when he was identified, the police services realized he was a member of a band of three individuals back from Yemen and free to do as they pleased.
In Savigny-sur-Orge, a car rammed into the barriers protecting a Jewish community center.
In Nice three soldiers on guard in front of a community center were attacked with a weapon by one Moussa Coulibaly. One of the men is disfigured for life.
Note: I presume the weapon was a knife. Ironic, that his name was Coulibaly.
The vast Vigipirate plan, on high alert, will end next week (i.e., the week ending February 20).
The number of men had reached 10, 412 for Opération Sentinelle. The effort was to be "short term", because, since the attacks, and for the first time, the government was employing as many soldiers on national territory as abroad, from the Sahel to Iraq.
Almost all the 154 units deployed at 722 Jewish sites will be replaced by mobile patrols: the army has just rented 300 vehicles: minivans with nine seats.
General de Villiers, in charge of the operation, explained how difficult it is for soldiers on patrol to walk a total of 30 kilometers on foot every day, in their bullet-proof armor, in all kinds of weather. Living conditions for them are rudimentary; some had just returned from four months in the Sahel, only to be deployed in Paris. Others on leave were called back without warning.
The general added that he was not able to relieve 10,000 men, unless he called on the soldiers preparing for overseas operations or who were already there, but there was no way he could pull them out of service.
The operation will be re-organized to be more mobile, and talks are underway between the military, the prefects and the representatives of the Jewish community.
On February 8, the Defense minister stated that Operation Sentinelle costs "about one million a day."
Note: This is the price (and only the beginning!) of bringing millions of Muslims into a country with a (very small) Jewish population - did they really think it would work? We see every day the folly, the irrationality, the disastrous consequences of malevolent politicians, clueless, yet determined never to do the right thing.
And though this article is about Jewish establishments, which are few in number, we see that the army could never protect the whole country from a massive jihadist coup. We are justified in wondering if the French government would even consider protecting Catholic churches and cemeteries from attacks, since there have been hundreds of such acts over the years, and I know of no deployment of troops, or any concerted police effort of any kind, to protect the sites and the people who use them.
Below, General de Villiers. Pierre de Villiers was appointed chief of staff of the army on February 15, 2014. He is the brother of Philippe de Villiers, former presidential candidate, founder of the MPF party, writer, and creator of the celebrated Puy-du-Fou theme park in la Vendée, the department he governed for many years as president of the General Council.
The comments to this article indicate an appreciation of the soldiers' efforts, and an awareness that the Muslim invasion was accomplished without the consent of the people. The idea that France will soon be rid of the "Jewish problem" does not go down well. It sounds like some French Jews don't want to envisage leaving France. At the same time they realize the army cannot protect them.
The picture at the top shows a French soldier getting some free food from a Jewish woman. The friendship that developed between the soldiers and the Jews - in particular parents whose children were being protected - has made headlines.
An article on the budget of the French army appeared six days ago at Le Salon Beige begins with the words:
Poor France, poor French army.
It seems the army will sell on a public market frigates and military transport planes to one or more private investment companies that will then rent them back to the army. The purpose of this scheme is to "find" billions of euros that are lacking in the 2015 budget.
All that because François Hollande, faced with the reality of the Islamic attacks of January, decided to mitigate the reduction of 7500 men without changing the Defense budget.
Note: It seems to mean that he realized he had to keep more men than he wanted to, but he refused to alter the budget - so he sells off the equipment! Readers comments vary from disgust to a feeling that it could work. The question is whether or not the armed services, in time of crisis, should be managed in this demeaning way.
In related news, you may have heard earlier today that Italy is deploying 4,800 soldiers throughout the country. From The Guardian:
Italian security chiefs have approved a plan to put 4,800 soldiers on the streets throughout the country to help guard against potential terrorist attacks.
A statement by the interior ministry after a meeting on Tuesday of military and security officials said they would guard sensitive sites and targets until at least June.
Italian media said about 500 would be deployed in Rome, where army troops already help guard diplomatic missions and residences, the capital’s synagogue and Jewish schools.
The troops are expected to be deployed at tourist venues including archaeological sites and monuments.
The measures come after attacks by gunmen who killed two people in Copenhagen on Saturday and 17 people in Paris last month.
Security officials consider Rome particularly sensitive because it is home to the Vatican.
In the past, Islamist websites have posted vague threats against Pope Francis and the Roman Catholic church but the interior minister, Angelino Alfano, said at an event with Vatican officials on Tuesday that there was no specific threat.
Europe is indeed at war - a strange war, that has not been officially declared, because that would offend the enemy.

It says a lot about a country whose best military unit is the French Foreign Legion, with the emphasis on Foreign. I think France is pretty much a done deal, just going to take a little more time.

How does that explain it?
Somehow I doubt many Frenchmen are attacking French soldiers (on school guard duty). So it’s pretty clear the Enemy Within is doing most of these attacks on France’s boys in arms. There’s an important lesson here...when a country’s ruling elite sells the nation out to the islamonazis — the consequences are just terrible for the normal citizenry.
