Chuck Chapman responded to a call for jury duty Tuesday, but he said he refused to serve as long as the courthouse wont hold wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples.
After a federal court ruled Floridas same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional, Duval County Clerk of Court Ronnie Fussell said his office would comply with the law and issue marriage licenses. But he said his staff felt uncomfortable performing weddings for same-sex couples, so the clerks office wouldnt host ceremonies for either straight or gay couples.
If they feel uncomfortable performing the weddings in the courthouse, then as an openly gay man I feel uncomfortable being here [at the courthouse], Chapman said Tuesday.
Chapman is 63, and hes lived in the city since he was 2. He graduated from Andrew Jackson High School, then the University of North Florida. Hes owned a hair salon for 22 years on the Southside.
Its my town, and I happen to be a gay man, he said. Dont make it any more difficult than it has been. Its my town, too.
Fussells spokesman, Charlie Broward, did not return three voicemails and an email requesting comment.
Chapman said he was willing to be held in contempt of court. Instead, he wasnt selected to serve on the jury. The judge did not give a specific reason for him not being selected.

Don’t want a homo judging me anyway. Prison rape would scare the bejesus outta me. He might think he was sending me to Club Med.

That’s actually a pretty good idea.
Just stop having civil marriages.
Oh, sure, they could go find a Episcopal Priest or a Reform “Rabbi” to unite them, but it would be a hindrance.
Being a pervert is your choice. You can not force others to like it. No law can do that.
The homosexuals will never be satisfied until they are a protected class of citizens who can demand that you celebrate their perversion publicly or be dragged into court for “damages”.
When government can’t do the natural thing, dislocations will occur.
Buck up.
In the 1950s, Homosexuality would get you tossed into a mental institution. Nowadays we need to toss the Judges in a mental institution.
