Meet America's Most Hated Retailer
wctv / cbs ^ | 2-18-2015

For Walmart, the dip in its customer satisfaction ratings could spell more trouble ahead. Retailers, after all, are at the whim of the consumer, who is typically looking for a mix of good prices, selection and customer service. If a retailer starts to fail on those fronts, it can end up in what ACSI director David VanAmburg calls "a deadly cycle." On top of that, Walmart's well-publicized struggles with calls from employees for higher pay and benefits may be taking a toll.

"They are not as dominant on the price side as they were, and the quality still isn't there," VanAmburg told CBS Moneywatch. "They haven't stepped up their game on that side, so we are seeing a lot of dissatisfaction by comparison."

Walmart, meanwhile, has been criticized by activists and employees for its low wages, which have prompted embarrassing episodes such as company stores holding food drives for their own workers. It doesn't look very good for the nation's biggest private employer when its workers have to rely on handouts and government aid to make ends meet.

Conversely, the top-rated speciality retail store, Costco, has benefited from a few trends, including its relatively high pay for retail workers and access to benefits, with Bloomberg BusinessWeek calling it the "happiest company in the world."

They are opening a BJ’s in Bangor, Maine soon....about 45 minutes - 60 minutes away from me.

Are they similar to Sam’s Club?

According to your posts, you would know less about Walmart than those of us who actually shop at them.

Besides, you have made it clear that your problems are within yourself, and not with grocery stores, you have some serious mental issues mixed in with some political hate.

True, Wal-Mart has come up with so many thoughtful innovations and also sell some strange little goods you aren’t going to find any place else. Once grabbed a drain-cleaner from a small American business, it was enzyme based and completely smoked the competition.

We’ve got a grocery store in town I try not to drive by because the people who shop there simply cannot drive.

Not only are almost all of the Walmart haters on this thread among our more liberal posters, but do you people realize how high strung and neurotic you all sound?

Read post 23, it explains why our resident lefties are venting so much on this thread.

You should actually bother to read PAST the first sentence. Nearly getting hit every time you pass a store isn’t high strung or neurotic, it’s proof the people who shop there (NOT WM BTW which you’d know if you’d bothered to read past the first sentence) can’t drive.

Yas, I find silk gloves de rigueur when "pressing the flesh" with the hoi polloi. Of course, I have never been to Walton's Market, the major-domo always sends one of the boys.

There are two items I absolutely require from the establishment. First, Hector, my shoe shine expert (the man is a Michelangelo in spit) can only be bribed with Rudolph's pork rinds.

Second, Walsheen makes the cash absolutely sparkle. It becomes crisp and fresh as mint money, but without the funny smell. I can't recommend it highly enough for all your money laundering needs.

*Titter* Money laundering. Lovey, I made a funny.

Carts running into cars, people slamming their car doors on you, missing product for weeks and months ... are things that exist outside of one’s head ...

It’s like this ... “Did you see that guy let that cart go and run right into my car?! Friend says, “Ummm, that’s just your imagination. It didn’t really happen. Call a shrink ... he may be able to help you!” ... LOL ...

... Plus ... I have no idea how how one “gets political” from almost being run over by a car in the parking lot ... :-) ...

You said, “I feel the exact same way.”

There’s someone on this thread who is going to tell you ... that you have mental problems, then ... for thinking that way! ... :-) ...

The particular instance of HRC going to Costco vs. WalMart is no big loss. She couldn’t even fill the library in Chappaqua for her book signing there.

Our local Wal-Mart and Costco share a driveway! I shop at both for different items/reasons.

***I’m amazed that such a place can stay in business***

Have you been to the one at Sapulpa? If it is like it was twenty years ago it is Nasty! They DID get me a temp prescription when I forgot to pack mine so that is in their favor.

On the other hand, the one at GROVE is nice!

Walmart sucks, IMO. I worked in an electronics dept. for over year in 2012-2013. They rely upon the fact that 1) Government based social services make up for their lack of pay for employees. 2) Their rewards system even for employee achievement is SOCIALISTIC (store wide, not individual based) 3) Pay raises are the same for poor and good performing (except for the very top-unless salaried-see management) are a measly .40 per year. 3) Most employees were kept just below full time employment, thereby being ineligible for benefits. 4) The stores (or at least mine) was regularly understaffed which would effect customer service. I can’t tell you how many times I was frustrated by being the ONLY employee on duty on a busy Saturday morning in electronics when my goal was to provide the best possible service to every employee, I COULN’T physically help 4-8 customers at one time.

I did read it.

You have grocery stores that you avoid driving past for safety reasons

Do you people realize how uptight and crazy you sound?

I think it depends upon WHERE the Walmart is located....police here specifically told my hub NOT to go to Walmart in one part of town, especially on Friday nights....not safe...

***I can see people stealing stuff! ***

I’ve seen the same thing at the DOLLAR STORE in Tulsa. Once they could not help us as they were holding down two boys who tried to steal a radio-CD player.

Walmart in Sand Springs is good the last time I was there.

I don’t have to hold my nose to go into my local WalMart here in Maine.

All the employees, except two or three, are white. 100% of the employees are hardworking and helpful.

The people shopping are 98% white.

Aside from being sold out of what I’m looking for once in a while, I don’t have any complaints.

I haven’t experienced the problems mentioned by the other posters on this thread.
