More than 30 people have been nabbed for food stamp fraud in the North Country.
Investigators say over the past couple month's people used their food stamps to get food or alcohol at the Old Time Butcher Block store in Brushton.
Police also say it's not the first time the owner of that store, Dennis Sauve has been charged with allowing such fraud,
Police say more arrests are expected.
More seriously, this is not a new story. FS fraud in the days of paper stamps was legendary. 50 cents on the dollar was the typical exchange rate, IIRC. Even 60 Minutes did a show back in the day about the things they could get.
I’m not sure how they swing it with the EBT cards, but it must not be too hard. There was a case in Indiana where a convenience store did almost a half-million in business that way. http://www.theindychannel.com/news/local-news/2-ind-stores-indicted-on-food-stamp-fraud
He blew all his money from the dragon hoard on hair extensions.
and then wheel those freebies into a new model SUV.
I see it every time I go shopping but yesterday really pushed my buttons so I let the friggin breeder pig have some American language lessons and I took a pic of her loading her "free stuff" into a nice 2014 Ford SUV.
and you'll never see her face plasterd in the news for welfare fraud because she's not committing it.
If it’s coming from some government program, it’s not charity.
Welfare is taking from some to give to others; charity doesn’t have the taking involved.
Warning: The priests of gloBULLism and Free Trade that roam the halls of Free Republic may put a curse on you for this heresy.
Blacks are immune from food stamp fraud arrest?
There aren’t any poor white people, they have white privilege don’tcha know.
The majority of Americans are now "riding in the wagon" with a decreasing number of us pulling the wagon.
Unless things change, the future of our society is bleak.
call it whatever you want to. It’s beside the point really.
**Republicans are not the ones swelling the ranks of the welfare recipients**
Whoa. No, the needy are the ones on welfare. Needy are vetted by the *system* for bennies.
I hope that you realize, that in a heartbeat, through life circumstances, you could be on the welfare rolls. Life does not differentiate, by party affiliation.
Goodness, I will pray for your callous soul.
Why not direct your rage against all the well documented Wall Street irregularities.
That is it exactly. The safety net has turned into a web. The charity we need to be giving people is a helping hand out of that web. Obviously some people need the safety net but there are a whole lot of other people ruining the safety net for them and those people can starve in the street for all I care, these dirtbags buying booze with their EBT cards for example.
All capable of working and providing their habits. Disgusting.
I get forced to buy gov,t subsidized alcohol almost every time I gas up my gasoline powered vehicle. Why shouldn,t peeps being given money be able to spend it on whatever they want? Otherwise hand out cheese and sacks of corn meal.
Are you sure you are in the right forum? Your reply sounds like it was lifted right out of Democrat Underground.
The original "welfare" system was intended as a temporary measure, typically to help out a housewife who lost her husband and had children to raise. Even in that circumstance, it was generally expected that she would find another husband, get a job, or move in with her parents.
Welfare was not meant to be "forever."
Due to liberal soft-hearted people like yourself, we are now burdened with over 100 million people that the working people of this country have to support. You are KILLING the working people of this country. People that get up at 5 in the morning to commute to jobs and don't get home until 7pm at night, so that almost 50% of their income can be taxed, fee'd and fined, in large part, to support these layabouts who sit around griping and moaning about those "Wall Street folks" - as if everybody with a little ambition and a decent job is a "one percenter" who is oppressing them in some way.
Maybe some of your "sympathy" should go to the declining number of people who bust their humps to put the food on the table for not only their own families but also for families of people who decide to sponge off society and live a life of leisure.
Yet instead, you call the people who support this massive welfare state "callous souls" because they dare to suggest that people are abusing the system.
Yep, taxation needs to be accounted in time spent. Takers spend ZER0 time “giving back” even though they have all day.
Watch “Frozen River” and you’ll see an accurate portrayal of the desperate poverty in New York State’s northern tier. Great film.
frankly both of you are right and both issues need to be addressed
There seems to be more and more needy people here in America lately. Looks to me like all that welfare has made more poor people, not fewer poor people. Seems to me that was the plan all along and it's going to be the death of this country.
I hope that you realize, that in a heartbeat, through life circumstances, you could be on the welfare rolls.
I think about that pretty much every day actually as I work hard and play by the rules and I give thanks to God for the favors he has given me and I like to think that I serve him. Let me tell you a little story about an ant and a grasshopper. I'm sure you have heard it actually so I'll spare you. let me just tell you that welfare turns ants into grasshoppers. In time, we will be a nation of grasshoppers and there won't be any more ants. I don't see how God is served by a nation of pot smoking, indolent socialist, alcoholic grasshoppers.
Goodness, I will pray for your callous soul.
What you perceive as callousness is actually a genuine concern for the greater welfare of this country and its inhabitants and it is born of a hard earned wisdom granted to me by God through decades of hard lessons. So, I will pray for your naïve soul.
Why not direct your rage against all the well documented Wall Street irregularities.
I'm not sure what you're talking about. Please, elaborate. what "wall street irregularities" are you raging against?
Are you freaking kidding me?
