In a recent Buzzfeed video that has already logged over 5.5 million views, President Obama reminded us all that the Affordable Care Act’s second open-enrollment period ends Sunday. And yet federal officials have already begun trumpeting the numbers.
Early this month, Sylvia Mathews-Burwell, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, estimated that 10 million people had already gained access to coverage under the law. If accurate, the secretary’s estimate would surpass the administration’s stated goal of 9.1 million new and continuing enrollees before the February 15 deadline. However, this figure still represents 4 million fewer people than what had been projected by the Congressional Budget Office in April of last year.
It remains to be seen how much of this observed increase has been due to the hiked-up fines for failure to purchase health insurance in 2015.
While last year’s penalty cap for non-compliance was a relatively modest $95 per adult (and $285 per family), or one percent of income— whichever was greater—those figures have since sharply increased. Failure to heed the ACA’s individual mandate this year will result in a hefty fine of the great of $325 per person (and $975 per family), or two percent of household income.

Obamacare has a built in bias against marriage regarding the penalty.
Saw my wife and son’s insurance go up more than double and mine bronze plan costs $400 a month. Meanwhile my lower waged friend told me he got a silver plan for $120

The only important thing is that it helps overwhelm the system.
Of course, in states without federal exchanges there is no cost of noncompliance for those without affordable policies available.
They include renewal enrollment with brand new enrollments to get to their 10 mil. number!
On your tax return you have to say yes or no for the question, “Did you have health insurance last year? If you lie the form then asks what kind (Medicare, Medicaid, Private). You can pick one and that’s it. No penalty! I doubt that anyone will ever check.
What has happened, and not much is being made of it, is that more people are being knocked off from any coverage, than have been enrolled in the Obamacare fiasco. The “enrollment” figures should be reported ONLY as those who have actually made the payments toward the plan in which they are enrolled.
But even this is a little deceiving, as many of those who have enrolled and made a couple of payments, but stopped because the cost/benefit ratio was definitely NOT in their favor, are effectively out of any health care plan at the moment, and re-enrolling may not be an option.
Add to that the numbers of people who have had their health care plans discontinued by their employer, and the ranks swell exponentially.
There are fewer persons covered by any health care plan today, in 2015, than there were in January 2009.
That is definitely a step backwards, mo matter HOW much they try to apply polish to that steaming pile of dung.

Buying insurance to get flu shots is pretty stupid. They’ve been cheap, and free for a lot of people, long before 0bamaCare. I wouldn’t get one anyway.
People will just stop reporting income and drop off the radar altogether.
And then there's wife's experience with Medicare, which will no longer pay for the two hundred a month pain patches she needs to handle lower back pain because the pain comes from an old fractured spine and not from shingles - they will however pay for a pain patch which uses a very strong narcotic, the instructions for which begin WARNING: Fentanyl has a high risk for abuse and severe, possibly fatal, breathing problems ...and sure enough after one day trying the new patch, my wife developed a severe reaction including nausea, dizziness, and extreme drowsiness - well we know Obama stole three-quarters of a trillion dollars from Medicare to try to make his plan look "affordable" and he needs funds from somewhere to give tax refunds to illegal immigrants, so apparently the money will be coming from the elderly who will be drugged and then eventually ignored to death......
