Les Miles' Achilles' Heel of No Star QB Keeping LSU out of NCAA Title Discussion
Bleacher Report ^ | February 12, 2015 | Ray Glier

LSU played with one hand tied behind its back in 2014, and that one hand happened to belong to its quarterback, which made for some trouble for the Tigers.

It was excruciating trouble, actually. The Tigers had the top-rated defense in the SEC and still lost five games. They were 14th out of 14 SEC teams through the air in the regular season, gaining just 1,967 yards with a muted passing game that looked like it belonged in the year 1967.

So the familiar refrain around LSU, the two words you hear most often:

If only…

If only LSU had a quarterback it could trust.

Except for the one year with Mettenberger/Beckham/Landry, LSU has a reputation under Miles of being ultra-conservative on offense. Why would a stud QB go there when they can play other school that throw the ball 50 times a game.

In fact, the only SEC team I see right now that can be a serious title contender is Auburn, where they have upgraded their offense to better take on teams from especially the PAC 12.

“What is harder to measure is poise and the ability to perform under pressure and what kind of leader a guy is. Those kinds of attributes are as important, or more (than physical attributes).”

Miles is not the only coach who is too dumb to figure this out.
If he finds someone who can throw the ball from end zone to end zone, he is happy.

I thought it was against SEC catechism to use the term SEC in a sentence without saying “Bama!!!” and “Bless Nick Saban!!” while facing Tuscaloosa...LOL!!!

Cam Cameron will get this fixed. His first year with Mettenberger did wonders. Last year two of their top 3 receivers were freshmen, their top running back was a freshman, and their top two QBs were a sophomore and a true freshman. This offense will be dynamic the next few years.

They have another huge problem besides QB. They recently lost the best SEC DC to the Texas Aggies.

You're referring to regular caller Phyllis to The Paul Finebaum Show? :-)

I personally think SEC football fans are approaching the point of European soccer fan in terms of overzealous fanaticism for their teams. :-/

Yup, Phyllis would be the “best” example of the rabid Bama fan. This last year and especially the bowl season were hilarious. Finebaum ought to get a medal for what he has to endure. I love it when the video shows up on Mike&Mike - it may be the best part of college football season.
