The Knoxville Police department sent out a reminder on their Facebook page Thursday stating that flashlights should never be used in place of headlights in a vehicle.

Officials say a Sweetwater resident was pulled over twice in an 18 hour period for driving after dark with only flashlights used to light up the road. The flashlights were reportedly strapped in with a bungee cord attached to the vehicle's bumper. The driver was first stopped by KPD in East Knoxville, then later by another officer in North Knoxville.

“There’s a Jeff Foxworthy joke in there somewhere.”

I just told my wife about this and said “you might be a redneck if...”.

In the north GA. mountains there would be a kid strapped to each fender with a flash lite. That way the screams of the young-ens would let you know if you were still on the road. Still- I my have found the whole problem!

Sounds like a good stop - everyone knows you need to use duct tape, not bungee cords for headlights to keep them properly aimed.

I used to have a neighbor who subscribed to the "anything goes" vehicular philosophy. This is his truck that I later had towed away (after it sat for 3 years, because it was disabled). Note the passenger side headlight. Yes, there was a flashlight bailing-wired in there at one point.
