Henpecked traveling salesman David Mann (Dennis Weaver) wants only to get to his next sales meeting in time to save an account. Unfortunately for him, his life becomes a lot more complicated - and dangerous - when he makes the mistake of passing the wrong truck in the California hills. What follows is a tense, scary thriller centered around the ultimate in "Road Rage."

Ping!
I was 5 or 6 when I saw it. Good movie then. Still good now.
One of my favorite movies!!
If you want to see Dennis Weaver create a character, go look at some of his 30 minute Gunsmoke shows as “Chester”.

You’d be hard pressed to make a stinker worse than this. “Christine” comes close, though.
Eh, each to their own, and all that.
BTW, Christine has Harry Dean Stanton in it. And any movie with Harry Dean Stanton in it is automatically awesome. :-)
In its defence, Duel was a made for tv movie with almost no budget. How many other made for tv movies from 1971 can anyone remember?

Yep, he was great in Cool Hand Luke. Very talented.
Spielberg’s best movie IMHO.
Red Dawn as well.
It definitely wasn’t a stinker, no one ever calls it great cinema but people really liked it and and they remember it.
It’s one of those “TV movies” that people remember fondly.
I love Duel——and found it very frightening.
A great movie.
.
My favorite movie of all time, I’ve seen it at least 35 times and will watch it more.
That and Brian’s Song (which I think came out the same year) were the two most prominent Made-for-TV movies ever made.
Life was better when the networks did Made-for-TV movies, as cheesy as some of them were.
Kong’s ‘Maximum Overdrive’ with Emilio Estevez makes ‘Christine’ seem like Citizen Kane.
Remember, the trucks and other machines come to life and enslave the truckstop humans, forcing Emilio & Co. to re-fuel them, and they circle the gas pumps like Indians around the wagon train?
And any movie with Harry Dean Stanton in it is automatically awesome. :-)

Don’t care how long it takes, dildos! Repo Man’s got all night, every night.
Youtube has many of the “Movie of the Week” shows, but the quality is so poor on the video, that it doesn’t really work.
I did watch a few of them though, and it made me think of how good those actors were and Hollywood was, that they could pump out respectable little movies at the factory like, production line level.
I really liked one “Ordeal (1973)” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqvG5b5-dMQ
Paul Newman was great but George Kennedy ran away with that movie.
“Lucille!”
