Having been to Florida once (Miami), I was surprised that whites find it bearable to live there; we are simply not designed for that heat/intense sun. Maybe in the panhandle it is more mild.
What surprised me most (as a person from NJ, which is teeming with Hispanics legal or otherwise) was a sign on a restaurant advertising that they spoke English. I haven’t even seen that up here...
I adapted to the heat the first summer I moved here (northern FL). I have lived in other places with hot climates, and frankly I could do without the “cool” winters—just give me the heat year-round.
The Cubans in Miami are good additions to the country as are the Vietnamese. Both groups work hard and avoid entanglement with government to a greater extent than any other minority group. They pay a lot more in taxes than they suck up in “benefits.’ I have always thought that the country should have taken all the refugees we could get from both places, with a certain amount of weeding out, of course. Mariel showed the necessity of that.
