A rowboat on the open ocean sounds like a good way to drown, and the coast is mostly rocky lava and cannot be approached once you are out there burning through whatever you managed to toss onboard.
Sailboat would be nice, but hard to get moving quickly, and requires a helluva lot of time to learn how to operate competently.
