Oh, Apple always reports devices “sold” to end using customers to differentiate other makers who report devices “shipped” to retailers, carriers, or just into the channel, many of which are never sold. Apple is the only cellular phone maker that reports actual numbers sold to end users. . . the rest report vague numbers shipped into the sales channels.
They could have done what they did with a couple of iTunes milestones and just included a $10,000 gift card in the box.
